Has it been repainted?
Hey guys,
I'm looking to buy a particular 98 Civic and after looking at it pretty thoroughly this morning I'm wondering if there has ever been any paint work done.
This Civic is a blue/gray color (see photo below) and when I look under the hood and inside the trunk, the paint seems like a lighter shade of blue. I realize that Honda doesn't normally clear coat these areas, but it seems to be a shade lighter than the outside of the car. I did check all of the body panels and they all had the same VIN number sticker attached.
When you look at the fender lip under the hood and also the hood hinges it looks like there is some very mild overspray, but I'mnot sure if that is factory or not.
I had a 1997 Civic in the exact same color, but I don't remember there being this lighter shade of blue under the hood and the trunk.
The door jambs on this car are clean and show now signs of taping or overspraying. The paint on the outside of the car itself looks about right for this year model in terms of shine, chips and dings, etc.
I'd check the tires for uneven wear, but they are brand new. CarFax shows no salvage title record.
Just curios if anyone else out there noticed this paintwork by Honda under the hood and trunklid of their Civic.
Thanks!

I don't there should be any overspray on the hood hinges. If you want to see which panels have been painted feel around the edges of the panels for a rough edge. If there is a rough edge chances are that panel was painted.
If you really want to find out what is up with the finish of the car you can find one of these http://www.thicknesstester.com....html. They can tell the thickness of the paint. If the paint thickness isn't the same and the OEM spec thickness then you have a repainted panel.
