anybody ever heard of this car?
i am not sure if i should post this in the drag racing section or not, but one thing that i am certain of is that if anybody knows some info on this car, it will be the guys in this section.
gere is a link to a vid.

the caption at the bottom says that this is 4 rotor 2.6 liter rotary engine that makes 500 horsepower naturally aspirated.
call me skeptical but that sounds a bit too good to be true. am i wrong.
also, a different aspect of this discussion should be: what do you guys think of rotarys as competition?
i remeber a 590 horsepower turbo third gen from about 5 years ago that was racing professionaly. he ran a 8.9xx
i remeber reading the article in whatever magazine and thinking it was unvbelievable to get that time in a factory body car with "only" 590 whp.
so do you guys think that this 500whp NA rotary is legit?
what do you think of rotary powered cars as competition to piston engines/
is it fair to race a rotary engine against piston engines?
why do they seem to kick so much *** with so little dsiplacement?
talk amoungst ya selves, no big whoop

did you hear that thing!?!?! ******* AWESOME! It's crazy, it almost sounded like a damn dragster when it was idling at the line and then an F1 car when it launched! I've never heard of a 4 rotor before. Maybe some frankenstein setup with two twin rotors mated together....somehow. I don't know jack about rotaries or mazda's so I'm most likely wrong! Awesome car though!
i dont know too much about them either but form some of the stuff it seems like you can just keep adding rotor to rotor to rotor like they are made of ******* legos.
i agree it sounded pretty cool

That's pretty cool, I didn't know you could do that. Judging by the hole in the hood for more space as the motor is now, I can't imagine seeing any kind of 5 rotor though, even if it's possible. Don't rotary motors theoretically have no rev limit? LIke I said I don't know too much about them, but I do know that in this vid that car was revving to probably 17 grand, considering the sound was identical to a friggin indy car though. Sweeeeeet!

i was being sarcastic, i dont know how easy it really is to add more rotors. it seems like they are only limited by engine compartment space

im sure its possible to hook the housings themselves together, but dealing with the crank & ignition setup is another thing entirely. Mazda makes 2 and 3 rotor engines.. they did have one 4 rotor in the mazda 787B. you should hear a bridge-ported 2 rotor idle... sounds bad ***.
the reason rotaries make so much power is that they have twice as many combustion events per cylinder per crank rotation verses a piston engine. this is why the 13B 2 rotor 1.3L is often referred to as "really a 2.6L"
btw, rotaries dont need additional hood space, they are very small in size, and adding additional rotors would just add to the length of the engine, not the height. that hood scoop is probably for the intake.

i see what you are saying but i dont think i ever said anything about hood space, i was referring to the length of the engine, and how it would require a bigger engine compartment, but i never said that the engine would be taller.
i am not trying to sound like a dick, i'm just clarifying.
i know a little about rotarys. i know that they are compact and whatnot. i remember reading about some australian team that had a tube frame bmw of all things, and they had a three or four rotor (i cant remeber) engine that they made by assmebling a couple different ones together.
i assumed that was where all of the multiple rotor engines came from... by adding them together. am i wrong?

to me. I keep forgetting to get a new sarcasm filter because it's been letting a lot go right over my head.
BTW, I was also the one referring to the height of the motor. when i watch the video on my computer, I can't tell that it has a hood scoop, it shows up looking more like the motor itself is coming out the ******* hood. HAHAHAHA, don't get to close to me today, cuz I'm on ******* fire!!

I found that video a few months ago. It seems that making the 4-rotor engine isn't extremely difficult. I know they needed a custom made eccentric shaft, but i think the rotor housing is pretty straight forward. The important thing is...THAT THING SOUNDS BAD ***.
