Hey i have a 98 civic ex and i will be boostin her soon, trying to stay one step ahead of the game a line up a clutch while i have some extra time. How difficult is a clutch install on a d16y8? what should i be expecting to pay....and what about wiht a lightened flywheel

 

well how competent of a mechanic are you? its not that hard, but it is a decent amount of work

 

semi competent, its not the work im worried about just things like tools, and if theres aligments and things like that involved, since i have no expirence with it...

 

i got some stuff for that, i got act flywhee; and a street disk with the extreme plate the flywheel prob has 10,000 on it and the clutch is like brand new 500 miles mayby. i went to a b18. its an 3 hour job taking ur time lemme know if u want parts

 

youll need basick tools, but very important must have is a 10mm 12 point and a 17mm 12 point, that is for the clutch and flywheel bolts. everything else is easy and strait foward

 

Does anyone know how heavy an EX tranny is? My freind told me I would need 4 people to put it back on. Ive hear of two people easily doing it. Hell Ive seen one person do it.

 

if this is your first time and without a car lift

plan to spend one or two days on this clutch install

 

just dont stop working at all... keep going. I remember my first clutch jod was bymyself and it only took 6 hours (all manual tools = hard labor). and air compressorand hoist makes it sooo sweet (i did a clutch in 45 mins once... turn key off and restart the car in 45 mins..

if you have manual labor tools (as i like to call it) then it will take a few hours.... just dont stop working. If you don't have a lift or hoist... youi can use jacks... at least 2... one on the block (while the engine side mount is holding up) and the other on the tranny (when you unbolt it, it won't just drop).

I'm around 5'7 and 120, I don't excersize or pull motors frequently. I can left a SOHC trannie, block and head (individually of course.. all 3 will need 2 people) up to my face.

b series is fking heavy.. i can only get a b series block and trans up to my abdomen...

a torque wrench is nice to have and the only hard part you'll have (by yourself) is slipping/pushing the trannie back into the block. It's nice to have a friend bench or help you guid it in. By myself... i use a jack to raise it up to a level area... then lift/slip it in.... if you;re having a hard time.. slighty turn the crank or turn the shaft on the trans and try again on the trans/block mating process...
