Question for the 14/15 second guys out there...
What kind of times are you pulling in the 330'? I'm trying to do a little timeslip analysis so I want to see how my times compare to everyone's. My third pass ever on slicks I hit a 2.113 60' with a 6.324 330'. I hit the 1/8 at 9.907 @ 68.449 mph.
This was in my HX with bolt ons. The run came out to a 15.693 @ 82.901 mph. The slicks were 20"x6" so I lost a lot of top end (3" diameter less) and you can tell that from the mph. The clutch is stock, so I haven't had it back at the track since then. The launch was around 6200 rpm and I spun pretty well. On previous runs launching around 4500, I bogged and only pulled a 2.226 60'. I know I can get the 60' down with a better clutch and launch, so I know the car will go low 15s without a problem.
Does anyone think I need bigger slicks? I've had some people tell me that my torqueless wonder would probably have some problems with anything bigger.

what are you goals with this car? slicks are probably the correct size.
heard those motors do really well on the bottle.

good luck running low 15s, even with a better 60 the best you hope to achieve will be 15.4. traps are slow for obvious reasons and 2.0s 60s are the best you can hope for.

Mike I think you can run lower 15s, however I don't think your car is setup correctly. Here is why, I have a really mild GSR, with intake and exhaust. My last trip out I cut a 14.61@93. My fastest time prior to that was a 14.77. I did a spring and coilover setup custom tailored to my needs and picked up a set of traction bars, now I need new motor mounts. More seat time and a better setup for your car suspension wise will get you lower. My coilovers make a world of a difference, the car hooks, and I launch from 5200 on ES100s and catch 2.20 and 2.1s. You don't list what kinda mods you have, but like 1 2 NV said your going to need more power. If you can get rid of that HX head which is based around fuel economy and scoop up an EX head you can greatly benifit and get more top end out of your vehicle. If you want the easy way out, strap up a bottle with a 35 shot and you will have your low 15s, maybe high 14s
If only you knew about the HX head... The HX will eat an EX any day of the week with the correct transmission and with it actually being able to breathe.
Well, I think it's going turbo this winter, so I'm not too worried about the times. I'm more or less reflecting on this past season to see where I can improve as a driver. I've got a four stage plan for how I plan to boost, starting at 6 psi, then to 8psi, then to 14 psi and around 15 psi to finish off. I don't want to replace the sleeves, so I won't run higher than 15 psi.
I know suspension is more than lacking, so that may be another thing I replace this winter. Spring rates at only 4k in the rear and 3k in the front. The springs are more show than performance, but I didn't have a chance to do my research on them before I bought them. I'm definitely going stiffer. I think about 10k in the front and 8k in the rear (possibly Omni's), which should definitely help my 60' times. I think a bit lower launch on the current setup would have benefitted me severely due to the spinning.

If you wanna save some money get Ground Control to do custom spring rated sleeves. If you wanna spend like 1100 on the Omni Power Drag kit that is fine, I however spent around 1000 for custom sleeves and race valved Koni yellows. It was cheaper and I run 10K up front and 16K in the rear. The car rides so ******* awesome, I have many jealous friends because the ride is so smooth. I guess I don't know about the HX head, I always thought it was not ideal because it has a more economical side to it. I don't know everything Honda so at least I learned something. When I ran my car without the suspension and using slicks I was dropping the hammer from around7600, and hooking really well. I am hoping next year I will have my new tranny and slicks and hopefully 1.6 60fts.

Yes sir... which means that it could theoretically rev higher than any EX head given the right aftermarket valvetrain. But that's another thread for another day.
Update on this... went to the track for the last time this season last night.
Best run on street tires:
60' 2.283
330' 6.489
1/8 10.051 @ 68.501 mph
1/4 15.719 @ 85.831 mph
I only got two runs in on slicks, here's the best one:
60' 2.111
330' 6.278
1/8 9.857 @ 68.610 mph
1/4 15.625 @ 83.111 mph
My conclusion on this is that I need some 22" slicks. These things are falling on their face in the second half of the 1/4. I'm getting to the 1/8 almost a full .2 seconds quicker and only finishing less than .1 seconds quicker with nearly 3 mph less trap. With that 1/8 mile time, I should be hitting at least 15.4's with the correctly sized tire. I'm barely spinning off the line and then hooking up with the slicks, so maximizing the launch, I think the 60' can get down to a 2.05 at least.
Everyone have a safe and fun winter.

the larger 22s will effect your gear ratio and actiually lower your times in the top end.
i say the 20s are still perfect for your car.

no doubt, u will kill any top end with 22s. u say your spinning those 20s then hooking, i think its your clutch slipping. with an HX you dont have enough power to spin 20s with the correct burnout.

yeah.... he should try to heat those ******* up.
pull into the water box, one quick spin to get em wet..... pull out, put the car on dry ground, set E brake, put car in 2nd gear, dump the clutch and bounce it off the revlimiter.... once your car starts pulling forward and you got a little smoke in the cabin.... youre probably ready...
one moer quick hop in first.... then get ready to launch that bitch.
at least thats how i do my burn outs. seems to work for me.

I assure you all that I have the burnouts under control. It's two days after and the inside of my car still reeks of tire smoke. They were more than heated up.
So, why will 22s slow me down on the top end? My usual diameter is 23" on street tires. Tuckin' 14's.

by going with a bigger slick you are essentially making your gears longer which you dont want. theres a fine line between too short of gears and too long. but in your case you just dont have near enough power to turn 22s properly. go ahead try them, i bet you go alot slower.
slower, and more than likely break an axle.
also..... after a burnout..... 20s become larger due to the heat in the rubber and air in the tires..... 20s become 21 or 22 inched tall.
