Default CTR lsd vs. LS lsd tranny for daily driving?!?

i have daily driver car 95 EG6 hatch built LS/VTEC..i traded my LS w/lsd for a CTR lsd tranny, i kno the CTR has shorter gears but, would that mean i wont have top end? and would the rpm be too high on the freeway on 5th? would i be able to cruise on 5th or any gear pretty much? i dont know if that was a smart move? cuz its NOT a track car its my daily driver. Thanks guys, im gettin my engine swap done today..11/5/05

if all the gears are shorter then cruising in 5th will be a higher RPM.

but isnt thre a way that you can put a longer gear in for 5th? so it can be your crusing gear?

it depends on how you drive your "daily driver" do you like to race alot of people or do you just drive casually.
altough im assuming you like to go fast with a built ls/vtec.

altought the shorter gears on the CTR tranny may sound better you would be shifting every 2 seconds and i would imagine some traction issues may occur? and if you're putting down pretty good power the ls tranny would be a good choice to. because even though the gears are longer all that power will still get you going pretty quick

so in the end i wouldve stayed with the LS tranny but thats just my two cents

by the way the ls final drive is 4.266 and the Type R is 4.785

CTR tranny=Si tranny+LSD. The final drive(4.40) and gear ratios are the same. You shouldn't have too much trouble on the highway. I cruise at 80 at about 5000-5100 in 5th.

The 4.785 FD is only on the ITR

overall would i be happy with this decision of having the CTR w/lsd then the LS w/lsd tranny...cuz honestly ive never driven any b-series. should i expect a very good outcome compared to the d15 that im currently using?

so does anyone know how to change out gear from LS 5th in a GSR tranny? When i got my GSR it had a LS tranny after a while i changed it back to a GSR tranny i was not as impressed as i thought i would be. The high hiway reving gets old fast and the gas mileage goes to he!!. I am building a 95 eg and putting a GSR in it but i want to swap 5th gear with an LS so i get the best of both worlds. Can anyone help?

yes i know how because i was going to do it but to actually gain anything out of this swap you not only need the ls 5th main and countershaft gears but also the ls final drive

here you go tho this is into a b16 tranny but you get the jist of it https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=555929

I believe you'd be happier with the CTR tranny. The synchros are reinforced and the highway cruising is not bad. I find that it's easy to drive a little slower on the freeway (Like 70-75mph, helps me avoid tickets) besides, having 5th gear cruise right below vtec is nice. No need to downshift when I pass. Just push the gas pedal.

to those who complain about "lack of top end" with a short geared tranny...

if you're topping out in 5th gear, you deserve to be taken to jail. theres no reason whatsoever to be driving that fast on public roads.

You'd be at around 4200-4500 rpm. The CTR tranny has close gears but the final (4.40) drive makes it well suited for daily driving.

i love my b16 (ctr/itr) gears. great accelleration and high rpm at highway speed which helps accelleration. i'd die if i ever had to go back to an ls/gsr longer trans.

For the record, Si gears=USDM ITR gears=CTR gears. JDM ITR gears are different. Check here:
