96-97 JDM ITR tranny = USDM ITR tranny
98+ JDM ITR tranny has the same first three gears as the prior years, and GSR 4th and 5th gears, with a 4.785 Final Drive. The prior years has a 4.40 Final Drive.

Depends on your application. They are both great trannys. I have a 97 JDM one for sale by the way. Shameless plug. :-)
