Well it seems that you're pretty set on the nissan but for 7k in the motor you could have an 11second honda if you do most to all of it yourself.
im neutral, as i only own a honda crv and a mk2 gti, so i say go with the nissan, it has alot more potential than any honda will... RWD? TURBO? yeah right you're gonna pass that up for a silly VTEC (we all know VTEC is really for fuel economy)
Yes this is a Honda site, most will say Honda. obviously.... ask on a Nissan site and things will be different...
Depends what the car is for. If I could only have 1 car and I had to drive it everyday I would take the FWD hatch w/ N/A B-series motor. If it was a second car, more of a weekend/fun/track car I would take the RWD 240sx w/ SR20det. This is only if someone was offering me only these 2 cars and the $ was the same or not an issue.
Bang for the buck when dealing with swaps and modded cars has alot to do with what kind of part you use, what deals you can find and most importantly if you can do the work yourself or do you need a shop to do everyhting for you.
My $.02

Are you retarded? I don't think he'd throw a vtec-e in a civic if he got one.

those are two really different cars 89 240 with a sr20 is really if your into drifting a eg with a swap lets face it doesnt get sideways which in my case is a good thing. Not flame this but comparing these two cars makes no sense.
i have both a 240 and my civic hatch
the 240 is a lot more fun to drive. and an sr20 can make power easier because of the internals.
and my civic has a h22 in it. its my daily driver.
and 240's can drift...civics...i i've seen'em drift...but i dont like it

Even though this is a Honda site, I'd still be a little crossed between the two. Life stated above, if this is going to be your daily driver, get the civic.
If it's going to be your "fun" car, get the 240. And if it is just your number one car, dont sweat it. You can always get sideways in a civic. I do it with my Si all the time. It just takes a lot more work then RWD.

civics cannot drift. sorry just thought i'd chime in that if you did want to drift ff can't. going around yanking your e-brake is not drifting

what about the inertia drift? it's a valid move, but it isn't the show-off style drifting you see from RWD cars. anyway.
I own a civic and i have owned a 240sx. They are two different kinds of cars and it really depends on what you're into. In my case, i could have swapped an sr20 into it cheaper than it's gonna cost me to swap the motor in my civic.

240 with stock 2r20det will beat a bseries eg any day of the week in everything.
alreayd has forged internals, made for boost. HAS BOOST! rwd. plus so much more!
i would take it over any bseries honda anyday of the week.

yeah, the back of the car can be whipped around a corner. Though i am not a racer of any kind, I have tried it on gravel and it works. depending on how fast you're going, there might be a little bit of counter-steer involved. However, it is nothing like the bitchin' RWD drifting.
