Default Benson Sleeves Vs. Darton Sleeves

Please don't start flaming the fact that i have probably started the 984848394845th "Which sleeve is better" thread.

Well i searched and found both positives and negatives of both of them.

So i have a GSR block, i will be using Manley Rods low compressoin CP Pistons, im using the gsr crank, acl bearings, blah blah blah......

Should i send the block off to Benson in Cali to get sleeved and assembled or have the local machinist do a Darton Sleeve Set-up. Both are the same price, except for shipping the block to Benson. A shop told me that Darton sleeves are better because it is open deck or something.......

Please hit me up with support.....

Bensons sleeves are open deck too. Because you said a "local machinist" will be doing the darton sleeves, I'd have to go with bensons.

The installation seems to be more important than the actual sleeves.

Benson is supposed to be the "best sleeve installer," am i correct? You don't recommend using the local machist?

I would have to agree....send it to someone who does this all the time. A machinist could probably do it right, but with GE or Bensons, you know for sure its getting done right the first time!

Darton doesn't just make sleeves for Benson. ERL also uses Darton sleeves. They each have a bit different design though, and Darton machines that for them.

I've seen both ERL and Benson blocks in person, and honestly, its just a matter of personal preference. I like the ERL, but some people like Benson. They both do a good job.

AEBS makes really good sleeves as well

and i would ask your machinist first. if he has experience sleeving motors, then why not let him do it?

Definetly go w/ Benson. Way too many horror stories of local machinist's doing your sleeves, and a few weeks later they start sinking.

all companies use darton sleeves, darton machines them to the their specs, the installation is the most important, i have a benson sleeved block and its been perfect since i got it back
