i have a 96 civic dx and i was busting out a curve at like 60 and slide on sum gravel then hit a curve. i replaced every thing i had to except for one of the metal umm...(shim?)(the metal piece that goes on top and below the brake pads. i was wondering if u have to have the shim or not

Anyway, you're going to get told to keep it off the streets and stop being a jackass; so I'm throwing it out there before 20 people say it.
For whatever part you're talking about, go to http://www.slhondaparts.com and look it up so we can see what you're refering to.
If it's the spring / shim on the brakepads, the pad may be loose in the caliper and make alot of noise without it.

True. I have gone without them though, and it sounds like your suspension is about to fall off with all the banging around the pads do.
