I love poking my nose in here to see what people are making. Sad thing is I can't afford this equipment now and since I will be leaving for other interest in 4 months not gonna even get much use if I did buy what I wanted. So I am wondering if it's possible to get a shop to let me use there equipment?
If for no other reason then to just learn. But I wouldn't even mind makeing custom parts for people.

I doubt it man. People do this to make a living, they invest in their tools to make money. Your best bet is to get a job somewhere that does stuff like this and learn that way.
Theres a welding store in Rochester that if you take one of the owners courses he'll let you use the shop area whenever its free/open. MIG, TIG, plasma cutters and a bunch of other stuff.
Other side of the city off of 531 by the Fed Ex distribution center. The class I've been taking is there and RIT holds a class there as well.
RIT doesn't officially hold a class there although they basically teach welding to both the Formula SAE team and the Baja Guys. Thoose guys are great I did a watermelon launching competition last year and they helped us out not only with equipment and space but with materials as well

RIT does offer a class there, but its only for the Mechanical Tech students not the boring ME students.
MET also offers a composites class. I took them both great hands on classes.

oh really? i'm enrolled in the ME automotive option. they don't hold any sort of non-credit bearing class? i'm really interested in taking a class like that.
you can take the class direct from Mahany's The tig class is maybe 450 but if you tell the owner you are a RIT student he will cut you a great deal. I was going to do this but I didnt have the time and moved out of Rochester.
