Literally 80% of the LSVTEC setups I've seen have been built by inexperienced mechanics who seem to think that all you need to do is bolt the head up, run the oil line, and be done with it. The fact that most LSVTEC's are built with high milage junkyard LS shortblocks doesn't help either.

A freshly rebuilt bottom end (that's been balanced) preferably with higher compression pistons is a solid starting point. It's also a good idea to invest in a complete conversion kit (with the headgasket) like the Golden Eagle kit. Don't forget the usual **** like pressure testing and resurfacing the head, and be sure to properly break it in. Another good idea is a crank girdle (either OEM P72 or an aftermarket one) and a P72 oil pickup/pan.

There are plenty of ways to build a reliable LSVTEC, but most people tend to skip out on many of the important steps.

no need for aftermarket rod bolts...by the time you buy them and get the rods honed for them...you could have bought a set of eagles

you're best bet would just be to buy a GE kit, new oil/water pump (remember...GSR belt = GSR water pump) and turn the ****** to 9000 with no probs.
