Default Need Clutch Install Help!!

The 17mm bolt that connects the engine to the transmission near the rear mount is INSANELY tight. It is the last remaining bolt , but i have the tranny jack under the transmission to keep ther weight strain off of the bolt. Does anyone know an easy way to get this bolt off? I have tried Wd-40 many times and have had no luck. I am using a 3/8 drive ratchet, 17mm deep socket, and a short extension w a 15/16 and half inch extension on the bottom of the ratchet to try to get leverage and it barely moves at all and is wanting to round off.

it was loose at first and then got tight again. it feels strained, but the weight should be off of it. do i need to try to exactly level the engine and transmission or can it be off a little. they look dead even but perhaps are off by a couple mm's

The more even the better but a breaker bar, even if it's only a foot or 18", would help immensly in this situation.

For future projects get a 1/2" drive breaker bar, ratchet, and sockets. It makes jobs so much easier.

Tried it with a breaker bar. it WILL NOT BUDGE. i have tried raising and lowering the transmission to be sure that it wasnt binding and the stupid thing will not be moved. I had all of my 140lb body weight leaning into with the breaker bar. no luck. I fear that if i continue to try it i may end up ringing the head off of it. Any suggestions???

Try soaking it in PB Blaster. Maybe put 2 other bolts into the tranny to take more of the load off of that one bolt. Loosen it first, then remove the other 2 bolts you put back in.

definately use PB or some other PENETRATING fluid not WD-40=sux. Also grab the largest bar you can slap on the end of your wrenches (you may want to grab yourself a nice 1/2" drive breaker and sockets to match.) With the right extension to you breaker bar you should be able to break loose almost any bolt on your car.

Use PB Blaster along with a breaker par and an extension pipe. Your only other bet is impact gun. If I'm getting you correctly, this is probably the biggest bolt on a civic. It's huge.

Thanks so much for the help the bolt is off. Finally. 18" breaker bar extensions to get past the wheelwell and about 3 and a half hours got it free. Now that it is free i am slowly seperating the tranmssion from the engine, but it seems unwilling to sperate at the bottom and i am even less willing to screw something major up. i got the 10mm and 12 mm sheetmetal screw already. What is the best way of safely seperating the tranny?

Remove all bolts holding the tranny to the motor and remove the two mounts holding it in. Then grab the tranny and try twisting and pulling on it at the same time.

the "best" way is with an airgun,...If you dont have one you can stop the flywheel with a friend and a large flat head screwdriver. Thats the way I do it if theres no airgun around

go get yourself a chiltons or a helms.

1. jiggle it in. coax it by tapping it with a 2x4 or a rubber mallet.

2. there should be a bolt on the bottom of your tranny. loosen this like when you do a oil change. there should be another bolt somewhere to add fluid. get a chiltons or a helms and it will make more sense.

1. put back the axle through the knuckle and leave the other end inside the tranny then jam it in using the knuckle. (not sure if that made sense)

2. take off the vss and put down a funnel and put in tranny fluid

next time don't knock on the axles.... just put your weight at the axle by the tranny and that should pop them in... just pushing on them with two hands might not work especially on jack stands... but putting your whole weight on them WILL get them in without hammering
