painting 1990 honda accord ex stock rims! : )
im tired of not having enough money to buy those nice $600 two tone black and chrome rims i always wanted, so im going do what any noob might do in such a stressful situtation as this. im doing a do it yourself, $6 DOLLAR walmart version of it
i decided to paint my stock rims black or gloss black with some spray paint and painting the outer lip chrome to give it that smooth im down wit it look. i have an extra stock rim that im going to practice on b4 i go ahead and do the final deed. ill see if i can post pics of it. but i need some tips, so too make the chrome paint look like real chrome, and not like some powderd light gray paint thats been overly polished by some stressed out noob cause he cant afford the real thing chrome, what should i put on fist? a base white or base black, gray etc.?
yea let me know what yall think

Was it a rim or hubcap?.... well.. that don't really matter... I'm just curious....
Sand paper 500 to scrath the surface, then apply primer or sealer of any color. The surface might be a little rough after primer it, so you can lightly sand paper it again with the 500 or 600 paper. Clean the surface to remove dust and spray paint with the color wanted. Let it dry for at least one day, since you probably don't have a "head booth" and that should be it.
Clear coat could also be applied, and clear coat can be sprayed right after you paint the rim.

cool, yea their metal alluminum rims. i dont know but i think i have the speacial edtion honda EX, because it has gray leather seats also it might be a 92 but i know the rear lights are 90 style lights as opposed to the 93 style. i dont see many 90 honda accords with leather interior. but i have seen many with the silver alluninum wheels.
but wont sanding the rims scratch them up?

yes... it will give a light scratch on the surface, so the primer has something to hold on to....
If not... just prime, but be careful no to open a scratch.. because that could start peeling!

i gotcha, i guess there are a few of those low 90 model hondas with the aluminum rims, hopefully ill get new tires and wheels soon, i hate wheel covers so much, good luck with painting them man, im not too fond of trying spray paint, but hopefully it will work out good for you and we can see some pics soon
ok so does it matter what color primer i use when i spray the black part and than when i spray the chrome part and should i use semi-gloss or highgloss for the finnish?
o and another thing im looking for 195/60/15 tyres that have that thin sidewall look like ya know like how 18 inch rims look with the really thin tires, the Yokohama AVS ES100 from tirerack seem to have the look but those pics could be misleading. right now i have those ballon looking tires real ugly.
