Default Problem with new wheels and lug nuts

I just got a set of Rota C8's and was trying to put them on. I was re-using the factory '95 lug nuts. As I tighten them the fit is too snug and my wrench (shaped like + sign ... from Sears) is eating the paint of the are around the lug nuts. One of the nuts is now kinda stuck in there and I can't get the wrench back over it. What can I do?

well if your using the stock lugs then try getting a rachet and a socket and try taking the lug off with the rachet...then go to a shop and pick up some new lugs for aftermarket rims...
not to sound like a jackass but y didnt you stop tightening the lugs when you saw that they werent fitting or scratching the paint

That is because I am an idiot . I have fixed the problem, I just used a smaller wrench.

Sorry for wasting everyones time. I will take a picture of what it looks like and post in appearance and cosmetic tomorrow, I am too tired right now.

Use thin wall deep socket to remove it.
The + thingie also gave me the same hell on my Maxima rims.

You sure you're using the right type of lug nuts? I was under the impression that stock lugs' seating area are rounded and aftermarket wheels' tapered?

try using a different socket/wrench.. are you sure your not supposed to use the tuner/acorn style lugs? these are what was used on both my 5Zigen and SSR wheels.. it looks like an acorn kinda.. and comes w/ a rim key/wrench that you stick into the lug.. instead of a socket on the outside like the stock lugs..

Umm ... I don't know. My lug nuts went on there and tightened down okay, but I hope I wasn't supposed to put different ones one. How would I know?

Get new lug nuts. I don't believe the factory lugnuts have the correct seating surface. You can pick up these for 30 bucks.

Here they are on one of my subzeros.

No way you can use factory lugs with those wheels. Get a tapered style lug, and for god sakes get some locks. Those wheels could be gone in secondss if you use factory lugs. Nice job messing up your new sh00z!

It's $30 for a set of 16 (4-lug) or 20 (5-lug).

You might as well order the 5-lug kit since it's the same price - you'll get 4 extra lugs in case one's lost, damaged, etc...

You'll need the M12X1.5 size.

Yeah what he said ... I ordered them off JCWhitney ... $30.00 for the set. No way I would pay $30.00 a lug nut!

Thanks. I would have liked the center cap to, but I bought them off a guy and he didn't have them any more. I could be a total dirty *** and buy the Mugen centercaps for like $40.00 each and stick them on there.

Around here my emblem (red) lasted 2 weeks I imagine any nice center caps I get will be out of my posession in a matter of days. I need to find a good deal on some plastic cheapies.

well if your not looking for say "Mugens" i think your local tire/rim shop should be able to sell you some plasti-alumimum (hehe) center caps for maybe $10/ea..

redteg: we were talking about the Mugen lug nuts...which btw some dumbass tried to jack my rims this weekend.. took off 2 lugs b4 realizing i had wheel locks.. then decided to screw me over by TAKING my lugs... i had to borrow 2 lug nuts from a friend to drive home cuz it was night time and shops were closed.. how dumb is that?
