Help with pretty loud "KNOCKING"
k, i have a 92 Civic HB, and for a while it's been making this heavy "KNOCKING" sound under the car, i can feel it like it's hitting the undercarrige of the car in between the gas pedal and the cat
i've checked pretty much everything, and it's nothing to do with the Contol arms, CV joints, boots etc. all that looks good, i thought it might have been loose exhaust, but it doesnt seem like thats it either?
it only makes this sound when it's in gear, if i coast in neutral it wont make it anymore until i put it back in gear and power is being given
any ideas?

pretty sure it's not an axle...
i guess the exhaust could be hitting the shifter, but i cant move the exhaust at all by hand, so unless driving it puts a tonne of vibrations and force on the piping, it doesnt seem to move all that much

Just because you can't move it with your hand doesn't mean it's not loose. Have you even seen an engine flex when it's turned on? The engine is going to flex a lot, it may be too loose for the engine, but it may seem tight when your hand.

My friends car did this, and it was in the exhaust pipe before the cat. his spark plug wire was bad, and not sending any spark, so all that extra fuel was burning in the pipe, making a loud "knocking" just like you said. Check the resistence of the wires, check the plug to make sure its firing.
it's not coming from the motor at all....
i can FEEL the vibration under my feet, like it is knocknig directly under my feet, it's not just a sound
