Default Shifter Fork or Syncro

1991 crx si, stock transmission with Quaife LSD. Honda fluid for life until I tried syncromesh in hopes of slowing my problem. I have a grind on downshift from fourth to third & from third to second. I have also experienced it on upshifts but only when I am sloppy with clutch. So, shifter forks or syncros? I am about to replace final drive in transmission with 4.7 & wanted to know what the most likely suspect was before breaking it open. Also can anyone recommend a inexpensive rebuild kit for the transmission.

Synchros

Try a synthetic trans fluid - the trans will be much happier for it. Redline, Motul, etc.

A little OT here but RJ is that Johnny Cash in your avatar?

And now back on topic. When you got the syncormesh you got the friction modified right?

Yes, friction modified. It really hasn't gotten any worse since the change over. I know people have said it takes a couple hundred miles. I really am looking at determining the source of the problem as I will happily replace the internals when installing final drive. I have seen posts that said the grinding was the forks most likely, not the syncros.

Well unless you bent the fork it would be hard for it to be the cause of the problem. If you bent the fork it may expalin a little but I would still bet on the synchros being the culprit.
