Default Custom 4 lug to 5 lug conversion

I have access to a CNC lathe, and a CNC mill, and i am thinking about making a 4 lug to 5 lug conversion for my Acura EL, so i can roll on some Acura RSX type-s gunmetals. (if someone is selling some and are within 4hrs of london, Ontario, let me know..including the U.S.) i will make it using aluminum, or steal, and it will be 1/3" or 1/2" thick. i will CNC 4 bolt pattern, and 5 bolt pattern, then weld and cut flush the 4 lugs, and weld on some new 5 lugs. any thoughts or suggestions are very welcome.

The guy who will be doing the welding is certified, and hes been a welding instructor for a few years, so im confident in his abilitys. The total cost of this will probly be around 30$ for the metal, if that.

I still gotta find some gunmetal rsx rims! we've alread machined the steel for the brackets, they fit on the 4 bolt pattern nicely and there only 1/2 inch thick. we made reccesses for the 5 lug bolts to be welded in flush, and lock in. ill post pics as soon as I can.

so your wheels will stick out 1/2" further than stock?

You don't weld wheel studs on unless you want to die. They should press in from the rear.

Oh there going to be pressed in at the back, but im also going to weld them, for peice of mind aha. and ive measured, and 1/2 inch would make my wheel almost flush, with a little, less, to the body, were going to do a mock-up and then we might machine id down to 1/3 inch if necessary.

Even so you've still managed to ruin your scrub radius, unless you're using a different wheel offset that compensates for that extra half inch plate.

Kudos for coming up with a new and creative solution to a problem. Let me just ask though did you check with salvage yards anywhere near you about getting 5 bolt hubs? I would assume you could find a 5 bolt hub with the right OD and press it into your 4 bolt bearing on the existing upright for less trouble, less work, slightly more cost, and OEM reliability. Personally that's what I would do for safety reasons, hope it works out for you. Loosing a wheel even at 30 miles an hour could kill...

P.S. prelude guys have done the 4 to 5 bolt conversion as above...

I thought it was a better way to start a post than "I think this is unsafe, and that's why nobody does it this way outside of 10 dollar e-bay products" Maybe I was wrong, LOL!
