96 accord exhaust buzz
I have a 96 accord lx and i'm getting a buzz in the exhaust at about 2200 rpm. Years ago honda replaced the gaskets in a small pipe that has bolts with springs on it. Two weeks ago i brought it to a local muffler shop and they replaces the gasket on one end and it was alot better. but now it is getting worse. Do i have any alternatives to the gaskets? does someone sell a flex pipe? its only about 10" long.
Go to any auto/truck parts supplier and get as many Stainless Steel Hose clamps as is needed to completely surround the Catalytic Converter. Link as many together as required, circle the converter and tighten within an inch of it's life.
What you've got is a damaged/cracked/broken-weld Heat Shield on the converter.
Mine was to top shield.
If you don't like linking four or five clamps together, the ones used on Peterbilts, Kenworths etc for the Large $%^# Hose going to the external aircleaner housing works.

It has to do with the size of the piece that's vibrating that determines at what frequency (RPM) it vibrates. IE: The bigger the piece, the lower the frequency. It's a concept called "Natural Resonance"
Mine was between 1950 and 2090rpm - and it would do it on both acceleration and deceleration.
I would re-check those shields.
The only way to really find these things, is not with TSB's. You've got to get some trusting slob under the car while it's up on a lift with you in it. If you can duplicate the vibration, your assistant will have to go from shield to shield until he finds it.
