Default Is it bad to chirp gears?

I took my dad for a ride in my car and I shifted into 2nd at 5 k and it spun then went, he's like WTF I'M NOT GONNA HELP YOU WHEN YOU BREAK IT THIS TIME!!!

I didn't see anything real bad about doing it? Iunno probably a pointless post, but I was wondering.

depends how you're "chirping" it. if you're popping your clutch then, yes it's not good on your drivetrain. by popping the clutch (esp. since you have a perf. clutch) drivetrain is engaging instantly causing what's called drivetrain shock. the function of the clutch is supposed to slip/slide so gears can mesh slowly ensuring a comfortable transition between gears. so when you dump the clutch, gears are forced to slam together thus causing the "chirp". very harsh on the teeth of gears. not to mention you also cause premature wear/damage to misc. bearings. also when chirping you're running into alot of wheel hop, which also is damaging to the drivetrain.

I think its fine as long as your not popping the clutch.also if your clutch is way overkill you will break your diff soon... p.s don't be a douch 24/7 "racing" no body is gay

i've never chirped the tires by letting the clutch out slowly.

This is how oil pump gears shatter. When "popping" the clutch with high HP and an aggressive clutch and sticky tires and sticky road (like drag strip) you can break stuff.

I see nothing wrong with it. Some cars just have to much power that its hard not to chirp into second or thrid.

You're beating on your tranny. I say go for it, but be ready to cry and be poor when your tranny (and other parts) need a rebuild.
