91 CRX Si Dashboard in an 88 STD Hatch!
Well it took a year to finish and I've already sold the car to my friend but yesterday we both finished the CRX dashboard conversion. For about a year now the dashboard has been finished but I've had an 89 Si cluster modified to fit onto the 91 dashboard because I didn't have a 91 cluster.
It worked fine and, due to me being the laziest person in the world, it stayed like that until my girlfriend's 91 CRX DX got totaled and I could gank the cluster and hood out of it
The cluster has the automatic indicator on it, but screw it... still looks better.

::someone kill me::

DONE!

And that's the car's happy new owner, Andy.

The only issues I had were with clearence around the non-movable steering column. Getting the cluster hood on was a squeeze, but once it was on it works and looks amazing!

looks good. i would have heatshrinked those wires. i wish i would have kept the black dash of my 91 si and put it in my current 88hf(blue)
Looks awesome!
Could you not just depin the connectors and save yourself from all that soldering?
How much does a conversion like this cost? And is it plug and play? I mean, do you just have to repin the connectors and it works? Or, is there a lot of modification of the brackets and such that needs to happen to make it fit?

The dashboard was bolt in, no changes. The cluster mounts on the dashboard and everything bolts together stock mounting. The only missing part of the conversion is the bottom mount where the dashboard bolts in is in the wrong place because the CRX dashboard sticks out much farther and twists towards the driver. However, even using 3 bolts the dashboard is solid as a rock.
I could've depinned the connectors but the 1 connector I had cracked so I decided to just run the wires. Along with that wires from the 1st connector have to go to the 2nd connector and vise versa, so doing it at the connectors isn't necessarily the best way.
The cost of the conversion? Free if you don't count parts. There's no aftermarket additions, all the wires for the cluster are there... they're just in the wrong spots. Move the wires around and everything works great. I paid:
91 CRX Si Dashboard w/ center console.
$100 from B18C5crx (thanks again!)
E-Brake Console
Part of $120 of full 91 Hatchback DX black interior (to replace blue)
90 CRX DX Cluster
Free from junked out car.
90 DX Hood
Free from junked out car.

Haha soldering, twisted the wires and taped them up. I then taped the bundles together and bolted the harness back onto the dashboard. I didn't even bust out the soldering iron for this one.
What you see in those pictures is me working on it, not as it was finished (i didn't take pics of the finished harness). That's why everything's loose and messy

Good lookin bro!
This is one of the better conversions I have seen. I was debating on doing that to my 88 STD, but I opted for the Canadian Special Edition Hatch interior instead with a console similar to the DC teg/EDM Civic conversion (no cup holder or arm rest though, but integrated e-brake console, shift boot, and audio console) that bolted right up to the USDM 88-89 hatch dash with a USDM 89 Si cluster and original accurate mileage for my vehicle. I spent SEVERAL hundred more on mine than you did, so I feel you were much more productive in your project. Laziness and time involved aside, the finished product makes me want to do it on my next one!

actually, if you grab the special bracket off the crx, all the screws work.
oh, and for the tilt column, unbolt it and add washers. custom "tilt."
good work, now we have a page to show people when they ask about this every week.
