built b18c1 11:5:1 pistons
arp rod bolts built head
still STOCK CAMs
Basically i put my built gsr in my 94 hatch
no cels vtec engages and makes a real fast sputter for maybe 500-1000 rpms
then wheels break loose and the thing flys!!!
There is no significant power loss when this happens
tried raising and lowering fuel pressure, and advances and retarded the dist.
The only thing is when i fully advanced the dist. the sound didn't seem to do it for the same amount of time, as opposed to being retarded
ANY help on this is appreciated im stumped guys!!!
checked and cleaned solenoid screen, only thing i haven't done is replace the solenoid, but vtec does work and gets full voltage, just this sound when engaging!!!

Well, does it sound like detonation? Usually you won't be able to hear it in Vtec, and if you are detonating that badly to hear it in Vtec, then it'll be the last thing you hear before your motor falls out of the car.
Do you have some sort of A/F measuring device? An A/F gauge might work for now, but they are notoriously inaccurate. For something as modified as your engine, I'd try to get into a tuning facility quick before something bad potentially happens.
Do you have an EGT gauge? I'd like to have at least that and a wideband A/F monitor if I'm running a built engine, or something that I put a lot of money toward.

well here is my situation
right now i have now wideband just got my egt so i will be putting that on
still waiting for my wide band.
I feel i little more comfident that it's not detonation.
Its more or less a sputter right when vtec engages then clears away, but suprisingly there is no power loss when this happens it still pulls and breaks tire.
as far as timing thats what i am getting to this weekend, cam timing is zeroed out but for whatever reason my buddy that i got the motor from had the exhaust cam retarded 2 degrees i now have that back at 0.
When i checked ignition timing, bear with me i can't remember, either retarding the dist. wouldn't be enough and adv. it would be too much or vise versa i wouldn't let me get into the right timing so i am going to try pulling the belt back off it def sounds like ignition timing in my book!!
anyone else???
thanks for the replies guys!!!!

using stock p72 right at this second just trying to get the motor to run with no issues before installing everything.
