Northern NJ Area Reputable Shop for building a K20
Does anybody know any reputable shops in the Northern New Jersey area that will work on the K-Series? I inquired with Evans-Tuning but they are too busy. I'm looking to sleeve and install pistons and rods in my RSX Type S. So far it looks like I am going to go with epictuning.
Or does anybody want to give me a hand pulling my motor and tearing it down so I can send it out to ERL.
A little winter project for some extra dough.

Yes. Call Carl Jr. at Extreme Motorwerks in Paterson NJ. Tell him James sent you and he will hook you up. Very reputable and high class shop. check their website also xtremeracecars.com
Thanks guys. Epic gave me a pretty good quote just trying to figure out who everybody else is using in my area.
I'll also check out Extreme Motorwerks

Cheetah on here is building me a motor. Why not just send it out to earl over at benson? The turn around was pretty damn fast when I got my block sleeved and built by him!!!!
I wanted to send it in to ERL to be built but I still need somebody in my area to pull the motor and tear it down. If I could find a shop that could do all of the work, it would save me money and time. Not to mention shipping costs.
Extreme Motorwerks does Darton sleeving and building. I'm going to give them a call now and get a rough estimate.

Well I can't say I don't have any options. Thanks for all the responses from everyone.
I'm in contact with a couple of shops now and waiting for a few responses. I would rather have a shop do the work because finding a garage to pull the motor with someone is a problem.
Although, if some quotes that I get are too high, I will definately be doing the work w/ someone and sending the block off to ERL. But that would have to be done in the spring when the weather is a little nicer.
To all people that have offered to help I will let you know when I hear back from a few shops. Thanks again for all the help and offers.

No shop is going to have your car sit in an engine bay for three weeks. If they are, either your build is worth thousands of dollars profit or they arent very good at their job(ie they have no business). Most shops will wheel the car outside or something of that nature until they can work on it again. If you find a shop full of nice people they will store the car over night to help prevent theft and then push the car out in the morning. If you are looking to store your car away at a shop for an extended periord of time you should really ask them where they store the cars.

Yeah, I know that is the problem. Not many shops can even leave the car outside for three weeks. I don't care if it sits outside, I'll throw a car cover over it. I should have mentioned outside and not the bay.
^^yup FSM can do everything you need.. they are authorized dealers for ERL.. after they pull your motor they will ship it to ERL in this special blue thick plastic bin via UPS.. currently my Boys Josh and Dan @ FSM are finishing up swapping/fabbing a k20 type-r motor into another friend's DC2 ITR.. its probly there still if you want to go look at a sample of their work.
they are located in Claymont DE and trust me these guys are some of the best you will find in the tri-state tell them Dru sent you...

If you dont care if the car sits outside, I have outside storage and I am fully insured as well. Give us a call
I assumed you might tow it back after taking the engine out. My experience as well is that if whoever is doing major work like that for you says 3 weeks, plan on 5, maybe 6. This industry isnt known for being punctual when sending out work like that. Machines go down, workers get sick...many unforseen circumstances happen. Plan accordingly...

Agreed. Although I trust ERL's work you never know how long things are going to take. Luckily my car is parked in the winter as I drive my truck. Sitting for a couple weeks is not a problem. I just don't want to be without my car for months in the spring.
I'll be making a couple more calls today.
