Cutting costs for traveling to opposite coast
Right now traveling cost and time on the road is a major reason why people aren't traveling to far away races. A lot of the good racing is now on the East Coast, and there are many good racers on the west coast that aren't able to get to these events. Even the west coast events are a good drive for most of you.
Has anyone ever thought about leasing a hauler that holds several cars, like a commercial hauler, and then everyone split the cost? What would this cost and is this an option?

one of the guys here, Fred Ellis, actually has a truck/trailor he is selling cheap....it holds 6 cars. if anybody is interested in it, shoot me a PM.
Maybe he would lease it out, that way no one would have the overhead. Take a couple toolboxes and pit a couple cars together. Splitting 6 ways sure would cut down on costs!!!!
thats a good idea....i know a few years back they did exactly that...it came out to be cheap for everybody...the only downside is that the money he was going to be selling it for, he was going to put into his racecar......either way its open for discussion...and could help a lot of people out. i know i'd much rather put my car in there and pay 1/6 of the cost!
We've talked about it but it seems everyone wants to use my credit to buy or lease a hauler. I guess we could do something where they would have to pay under contract but then again that still isnt a gaurantee. Also, I like to leave at a certain time and no later so if they were not ready I am not waiting!
Yeah but 6-10 guys following the hauler in an Econovan pulling a Uhaul trailer would be cheaper than everyone driving by themselves. People could pit together and share a few tools.
This is mainly an idea for the smaller teams, that don't have a bunch of spares and big toolboxes. Most of the guys with a couple spare $10,000+ motors can probably afford to travel. Maybe.

It seems like a good idea, but even Art and I talked about it before and it seems like it's hard to do with the different schedule that everyone is under.
Some can't leave until a certain day for the race, some may havce to stay for the race (i.e. if 2 east coast race are within 2 weeks, why bother sending the cars back to this side of the country when you can just leave it there and saves gas) But the argument is one broke some parts, then it needs to go back home, while the others may not.
It's hectic as it is to control your own schedule let alone trying to work 3-4 schedules together. We all have jobs or shops to do and run, so time is always the major enemy.
