Will 4th and 5th gears taken from a Y21 tranny (civic si) fit into my ITR S80 tranny with no problems?

yes....they are the same gears...why?

Because I just had them installed into my S80 tranny.... Now there's a howling sound coming from the tranny in 4th and 5th gear . Sounds almost like straight cut gears. I guess the clearances are too tight?

 

How bad is the howling? After rebuilding my tranny I get a littl bit of that in 4th and 5th also. Didn't change gears...

If you've ever heard straight cut gears you'd kow it's pretty bad.

I just drained my tranny fluid and even tough the tranny only have 400km on it since the rebuild there was a lot of metal shavings in the oil. My magnetic drain plug was also thick with shavings as well . So it looks like the clearances between the gears are too tight, so their grinding to each other.

I find that strange because the Y21 gears are supposed to fit into the S80 with no problem.... I bought the gears brand new as well. So why are the gears grinding??
