Free up some hp?
Once again back to ask another question. Iam sure you guys will rip me apart for asking this and make me feel like a moron no matter what I say. I have a 93 Accord LX 5spd, Its got a cold air intake on it. Very stock, is there anything I can do to free up some hp? Iam sick and tired of looking at junk parts on e-bay that promise 15hp per part. I just want to know if there is anything simple that can be done at home to get any more power out of it? I have heard of people disconnecting the power steering pump and removing the catalytic converter (not what I would like to do). My guess is there is really nothing I can do at home, but any thoughts would help. Thanks
15hp per part would be great, if it were true. It's not. If you want a more powerful car, go out and buy one. Unless you are going to turbo it or nos it you won't get much.
Do some weight reduction. take the carpet out or the spare tier you will get some hp but not much. tacking off the cat will gust leave you with a loud car i can't say it will or will not give you more hp or not
taking your carpet out... i really doubt that would do anything, but hey what do i know
..
anyways no matter what the only BOLT ons you could do to make it go a bit faster is I/H/E (intake/headers/exhaust) but u wont get to much, just make lot of noise.. Alot of people do engine swaps, which is pretty common and u get good horsepower.. I also seen proof if u get your ecu upgraded it does good (i belive the guy had a jet force thing done to his.. or something i cant remember and dont really care to until i have the money to do it lol) also i hear PnP (port n polish) does some good. Anyways no matter waht it will take alottttttttt of money to make your car fast. Turbo would be my best guess if you want decent power and surprise people.
ALSO there is something on google and even on here, where its called like "free horsepower" things u can do to your car, I belive one was to relocate your IAT sensor, another was to do somethign to your spark plugs and had a brand name of oil that u can use to get some HP.. I know i have seen it an many others have to.

taking off the cat will free up the top end but your bottom end will suffer so will your mpg but not much. weight reduction is kinda pointless if your not making real power. look into boost or maybe a swap

i dunno now, we got this guy in our Automotive tech class who races his manual 92 dodge neon, all he has is a welded on fart can and a intake from a civic that he rigged into it, peice of **** but he gutted it, took it to the track, ran a 15.9
youd be lucky to get 5-7hp out of an intake, only upgrades that truely help are the expensive ones, sorry my friend, need alot of air pressure, or you need to upgrade the electric part of your car, thats how you get more hp, you can spend money on a 400 dollar exhaust system, and a intake, and take it to the dyno and shoot yourself

When I first started buying mods for my f22b1 I purchased an aem short ram intake, greddy stainless header and a custom bosal exhaust. I spent around 800 dollars on all this crap new. I was PISSED at myself for spending that 800 dollars when I should have grown a brain and realized that for 2k I could have an h22 swap. Now I have my h-swap and its 1000x better than any mods I could ahve put on that shitty accord motor.
With all the things that I have done to my car, I'm running around a 16.5.
It is by no means FAST. But to me it is FASTER than stock and that is my goal. Everytime I can put something on to make it faster than before, I'm happy.
BTW, I just bought a $230 catback off e-bay. I'll let you know how it works out and if it's good I'll hook you up with the auction.

If you do not have an aftermarket intake on your car I would say gut the air box and install a k&n filter in the OE air box. I did this to mine and it made .2 seconds difference in the 1/8 mile. I know its not much but it was almost free and still looks stock.
Run synthetic oil which will make your motor generate less friction and run better. I use Royal Purple and I think it is great.
But as what everyone else is saying the best mods cost alot of $$$$$. If you want it to be really fast do an H22 swap build it and boost it....then you can smoke just about anything on the road.
Also since your car is OBD1 I would consider getting Hondata and getting it dyno tuned, but really not worth the money if you're not built or boosted, only minimal hp gains would be achieved with the stock drive train.

For 2 grand you could have boosted the f series and made a hell of a lot more power and torque with that 'shitty accord motor'.
But you make it sound like the only way you're going to get more power is by swapping with an h22...trust me, there are tons of other options.
