Default Bought a new rebuilt tranny, and it messed up in less than a mile

I bought a remanufactured transmission, arrived thursday, the shop finished installing by saturday. Test drove it around the block, it wouldn't engage in second, and engine brake kicks in. It feels like the car slams on its own brake. I was hoping people can give me some advices of what I can do. This is HELL. I am going to contact the company on monday, hopefully they will reimburse me for labor, since I have to get the tranny remove again! Plus the tranny is supposely be like NEW Condition, didn't even have a mile on it, and it f&%$ up on me. I got my mechanic to write up what is wrong. He thinks that they company tighten up the clutch belts too much. Plus i know the mechanic, so I trust his workmenship. The tranny was giving weird clucking noise when shift from Park to Reverse. Please help.

Here is the company's site http://www.phoenixhardparts.com/

I hope I get some kind of reimburstment for the labor. Now my car have to sit in the shop for another 2 weeks since its gonna take a week for them to ship me another tranny

Did your mechanic flush the old fluid out of the cooling lines and use a new torque convertor?

sounds like u got internal tranny issues but by the way ,,,there are no clutch belts .... you might have to fight to get that company pay for the labor , a lot of compant will give you a new part but will not pay labor unless it was so stated ..but i feel since it was just a few miles ,i would politely ask them to pay for labor ,if they are not willing to pay for labor i would contact ,,better business bureau and or a lawyer ....

Thus whenever I suggest either a reman or used ANYTHING, I'll suggest letting the shop whom you've given the job supply the part. That way they're on the hook, not you.
You know, it's not that I'm against saving money. (GOD knows I like saving as well) Something like this tho, can sometimes be too frugal. I know from bitter experience.

My mechanic did flush out all the oil fluid, he even flush out the tranny cooler. I know he installed it properly, so I think it has to be to tranny. I contacted the company, they said they will call me back tomorrow, they are trying to figure out what to do. I probably will contact Better Business Bureau if they do not give me some type of compensation. After the install, while the car was still on a lift, he tested the gears, and he noticed that there is always a loud clunk sound when shifting from P to R, or to D4. The worst part was, Reverse only engages after 4 seconds, which seem kind of long. We thought that it was cause it was a freshly rebuilt tranny, so everything might needs to be broken in. He shift around for a minute or two, the tranny started to shift a little smoother, but there was still a slight jurk and clunk sound. I hope it goes all well tomorrow with the company.

By the way, the Tranny came with a new torque convertor too. So everything is new on the tranny except the sensors. My mechanic replaced an oil pressure switch, otherwise, all the other sensors were fine.

What scares me about this continuing transaction is (as you related) the "We'll call you tomorrow because they have to "figure out what to do". Who are these people? Did they just fall off the Turnip Truck or what?
Believe me, this has happened before with them. i find it unconscionable that they don't have policy in place for this.
What about "Implied Warranty"?.

my man ,,u don't have to go to honda.they are overpriced ..........there are thousands of indipendent shops specializing on hondas , MINE being 1 of them and we have more experience and better techs than both HONDA dealers in town , and we install reman tranny all the time ,,,,,,,,the place i get tranny from use to build trannies for HONDA . over the years ,i have installed hundreds of these trannies and never ever had an issue ( H.E.C. ) out of CA.,,, it is possible that this company just had a bad tranny and will take carte of the issue,,i would not jump the gun till i hear back from them and see how they handle it .....

i agree with dh. i have a lot of friend who has their own shop but they specialize in hondas and they do great work. this might have been covered before. i my opinion ase certification is how well you can read a book. experiance and some book smart is where the knowledge is.

Update:

So the company called me back, they are sending another tranny over. They said they will cover all the labor if they see that the tranny did fail. They said according to my invoice my mechanic wrote, they said my mechanic knew what he was talking about, and it does sound like an internal failure. They said once they get the tranny back, they will inspect it. If the inspection shows up as an internal failure, they will cover eveything including the full labor for installation.

I also got bored and asked them how often do they receive a call like this. They said rarely, the company has a 3% tranny failure rate. Which isn't bad i guess.

They said they are out of my transmission, and they will rebuilt a new one for me right away. Hopefully, this one will be good.

Hey DH

How much did you get the transmission for from HEC?

I paid 1360 for the rebuilt auto tranny for my 4cyl 98 accord.

Just want to know

see when it comes to things like this if your going to outsource another place for parts ie: your tranny your bound to get screwed somehow.. honestly even with the warantee its worthless cause you would have to pay for labour, for example you bought a deck at bestbuy and you bought 2 years performance service plan, you got your deck installed elsewhere and then your deck blows up on you, you take it back to bestbuy with your car best buy will not take it out for free but you would have to pay for the removal to send it out. this would have been better for you if you let the shop do the ordering for you if they tranny blows up or whatever they fix it for you at no extra charge from there on... lesson learned... when it comes to big ticket items.... dont outsource it and get it installed else where. it just bites you at the end like it did now.. mostlikly the tranny place wont pay you for your labour charges but they will give you a new tranny

for ur car would be a bit more than that anywhere from 2000 to 2350 depending on the warranty u want, 1 yr, 3 yrs or 5 yrs,, 3 and 5 yrs they pay part, labor, towing and rental,, but like i said before i have never had an issue with these guys, and i am going on 10 years doing business with them, and i will keep on using them cause i dont want to save on money and have to take a chance to have warranty tranny in a few months....,,
I am so glad that u got ur issue resolved and all will be ok..

It all depends what honda dealer you go to In the St Louis MO area Huey Honda undercut everyone by a significant margin their timing belt change was 290 and that included all of the stuff like drive belts, waterpump, etc.

Up here in MN I got a tranny fluid and oil change for $81 usually it is 80 just for a tranny fluid change.

You just gotta know where to look

UPDATE:
2nd tranny came, worst then before
Catches into gear but the car does not run.

Warning to all Honda-tech members, do not buy any tranny from Phoenix Remanufactured transmission in phoenix arizona.

I looked at their record, some people seem to be having some problems with their trannies, especially in foreign cars. People file complaints on them, they would go install 2-3 tranny, and still dont work. I am going to get my refund from them with labor on top. I am going to a local transmission place to get my old tranny rebuilt.

People in the past got full refund including labor, so i hope i can get them to do the same. I have to talk to them 2m.
