Default How important is the purge control solenoid?

do I need this? I noticed that there isn't one in my brother's car. What does this do and how important is this? How will it affect the car? Thanks everyone.

It is only an emissions item it will not affect your performance. It clears or purges the charcoal canister which is attached to your fuel system. The charcol canister collects any extra hydrocarbons from the fuel system in the car. Hydrocarbons are what causes acid rain. You might need it for a visual emissions inspection depending on your state's laws.
