car started w/o throttle body on
yesterday i took off my tb so i could adjust the tps...now i wasnt getting accurate readings until i turned over the motor. well the tb was off the manifold and i had my voltmeter hooked up to the tps. the car turned over and ran for about 1-2 seconds before i shut it off scared that i might destroy the motor. i saw a little white smoke come out of the intake manifold where the tb is suppose to be. any suggestions as to where the white smoke might have come from. it was very little smoke. could not even see it unless you were upclose to the manifold.
Did it rev up really high? I'm not sure what voltage the throttle position sensor is reading if it isn't hooked up to anything. I'm sure, due to safety, it should read the same voltage as if the throttle plate was closed. Then again, you have MAP sensor readings going off the wall too.
For a few seconds, I'm sure it'll be fine. The white smoke, what did it smell like? It was probably just condensation that normally gets trapped by the closed throttle plate.

It could have been fuel burning off.. when the car started and was getting mixed readings, it probly pulled back timing and threw in lots of fuel.. as is what ECU's are programed to do when it sees somthing seriously wrong
my guess is that if anything it would read lean. i had my laptop datalogging and when it recorded the start it was at 19+ a/f. i think it was fuel burning off tho and i was wondering why my timing was really low. i was really scared i'd hear something like the motor detonated or something. haven't started it yet. got the tps adjusted on a friends car so im waiting on the tb gasket to come in before i button things up.
