Default When VTEC engages?

Hey guys.

I was just playing around with my Type SH today, trying to see how my clutch was doing. I decided to try redline RPMs, but I noticed something strange.

VTEC didn't engage unless the gas pedal was down to the floor. I further tested and it seems that it will only engage if the pedal is about 90% down or further. I never really noticed this before, which worries me that it may actually be a problem. I just thought VTEC engaged anytime after 5200 RPM, not requiring the car to be at WOT. Is this normal or is something going wrong?

I've noticed the crossover isn't nearly as noticable when not WOT...
It could just be that you can't tell?

Crossover is very unnoticable if you aren't at WOT. Besides that, like in another thread, a lot of times VTEC won't kick in unless there is sufficient voltage on the load pressure switch. VTEC doesn't engage in neutral either.

I've had VTEC easily not kick in until 5200, 5400, 5600 or whatever if I'm ust barely on the throttle.

If it would make you feel better, do what they said above and check your oil.

Yeah, I was thinking it may just be very unoticeable, but as hard as I paid attention, it didn't sound or feel at all different after 5200 RPM or further, just the steady escalation of RPMs. But I will check my oil, although I think that should be alright. I'll put up an update once I get this figured out.
