Default 5th gen Prelude door question

Hi everyone, just joined the forums since picking up a black 2001 Prelude SH about a week ago. Its in great shape, including the aftermarket black leather interior that makes it look even slicker. I'm a happy camper

So lately I've just been taking care of a few things that the car needed, like new tires, oil changes, etc, and one of the things I need to do is take care of a big dent on the drivers side door. Its pretty much the only external flaw (and a big reason I was able to knock the price down). The body shop I took it to said that it couldn't be repaired and either the entire door or the outer door skin needed to be replaced, and just my luck I found someone selling an entire drivers side door.

My question is if anyone has replaced a door on their 5th gen from a different model year, such as 97 to an 01, and how the fit has been. I believe its the same part number, but I'm a little concerned about the fit and seal once the new door has been put on my car. Any advice is appreciated, look forward to becoming a lude-head!

In theory, you should be fine. Fading and possible color code mismatch might make it not exactly the right color, but nothing that should be spotted right off.

Make sure you change the lock or have the right key! Lol, had a buddy that didn't do that - funny stuff right there!

Remember that black changed in 99 from Flamenco Black to Nighthawk Black. There are subtle differences in the color that might bother you. Flamenco Black has red metallic in the paint. Nighthawk Black has blue metallic in the paint.

Yeah, the door I'm looking to buy isn't black at all, so I'm gonna have to have the body shop do some paint matching to the nighthawk black, so the color isn't much of a concern. I was just wondering how the actual '97 door would fit on an '01 (such as seal, and hinge), and if anyone had done a door swap from different year models. thanks

You should be fine, as long as the model matches SH or non-SH

I think the outer body is identical from non-SH and SH, isn't it? part numbers seem to be the same...

Sorry You are correct, I was thinking about the inner door panel.

i thought the only diff between door panels from sh to base was the trim kits, faux carbon fiber, brushed metal ect.

r u gonna have the body shop put the door on?
I know u have to take the fender off to get the door off. taking the fender off usually requires taking the front bumper off.

I don't know if the guy at the body shop was telling you the truth or not... I got a huge-*** dent in my passenger's-side door that creased three times over, and my paint-and-body guy was able to fix it perfectly. You might want to get a second opinion before you go hunting for door skins. Good luck whichever route you decide to take.

did he just fill in all the dents with bondo and repaint? i've been running around today getting a couple more opinions (most who tell me to just replace the panel skin).

i've found that most of these body shop guys have too much pride to do anything but a perfect job (which is a good thing), but i'm not out to make it look 100% perfect, just reasonably decent. i did get referred to a guy who's supposedly pretty good at bringing out dents, so hopefully he can help me out

i have both drivers side and passenger side doors for sale on ebay right now. I really dont care what I get for them they just need to be gone. From what I know the sh and base doors are exactly the same except for the little light inside.

Now, my question is, Does anyone knowof the sdiffernce between a typs SH inside door panel and a type s, BB6 (jdm) door panel? I saw someone selling a pair and they said they were leather but I believe my base models are too.
