Default Spoon Vtec Controller and Drag Racing

Ive been to the track a bunch of times before. Just for fun in my Blue CRX. Its equipped with a D15B and does a blistering 17.7 in the 1/4. This month I bought a new CR-X SiR and it came with a Spoon Vtec controller in it. This is a new concept for me since before it was just mash it and go. Now I have this controller Im not sure exactly what to set it at. Here is what it looks like.

Now its just a dial and it seems that all the way to the right is the stock settings for Vtec to engage. Then when you dial it to the left the farther you go down the earlier in RPMs Vtec engages. I was wondering if anyone could give me some suggestions as to what range I should set it at when I take it to the track. Should I set it really low so that I have better launch off the line, or set it higher so when I get better top end in 5th? I really have no idea. I was just going to put it in the middle and have it engage at like 4500 or so but never having a car with Vtec before let alone a Vtec controller this is a whole new concept for me when it comes to the track.

Any suggestions would be appriciated.

Thanks

Nobody has a Vtec controller in their car? Any suggestions would be great. Doesnt matter if you have a Spoon one or not. Just want some suggestions on how to run the car at the track.

VTEC controllers are so 2000. Everyone usually runs stand alones now. Hondata, AEM and stuff like that.

Play with it on a dyno to find out where your motor likes VTEC. Or get some real engine management.

Only way to tell is to put the car on a dyno and try different rpm settings and overlay graphs to see what settings are best. I wouldnt expect much of a difference.

Ok well Im not racing it competitively just a bunch of guys going up to the track on Sunday for a Grudge Match that we have a few of each year. So Im not going to get a new ECU with Hondata or someone else just for that day. I already have a Spoon ECU in my EF so Ill just crank the controller up to full and use it that way.

lol, Mike wouldnt need anything more hardcore than a DIY chipped p28.

you oculd probably get some good money for that unit on e-bay. since it's jdm people will kill and rape for it. use the money for a p28 and a local dyno day Mike. forget about your "****" ems bud..

If he cant figure out how to adjust a VTEC controller he should not be getting a stand alone unit!!!! To adjust it using the old butt dyno you can adjust it on the street (a real dyno is better but not worth the money for adjusting VTEC). What I have done is just adjust it until you cant feel vtec engage. What I mean by this is VTEC engagement FEELS seemless. Dont listen to the motor, feel the car pulling (I wore ear plugs the first few times). When there is no disernible jump or drop in power you have it right (or as close as you ever going to get it with your ***).
