Ok here's what happened. I took out the tranny to put in a new clutch, and when i hooked the speedo cable back up to the tranny the speedo doesnt work now. i took it out and put it back in and still nothing. is there a special way to put it back in? I cant figure this out. someone please help me.

oh yea i have a 92 teg. and it is also throwing code 17 for the vss

 

I had the same problem. Turned out the cable inside wasn't all the way in. Also don't forget to lube the cable to stop the imfamous 2gen speedo whirling noise.
