B16 in........................Not running so good
So I finally got my b16 into my 91 HF and like the topic says, it doesn't run so well. I replaced the head gasket with a spoon 2 ply piece. I also installed a ITR intake camshaft, along with a set of adjustable cam gears. All that was done before I dropped the motor in. Now lets go through the problems. My check engine light is on and the PR3 ecu is flashing the map sensor code. Now on my hf the map/ purge sileniod is a little different than my 89 hatch. It was under a black box and there was much more included under there. So I simplified it. I kept the map sensor and the purge silenoid.(Just like my 89 hatch) SHould I have kept the other stuff? I don't understand I figured all that was HF stuff and it wouldn't be needed. So I HAD my map connected to the throttlebody where it should be and the car barely ran. I tee'ed it off of the line that went to the fuel pressure regulator, and the car ran better, but still threw the MAP code. The car is dogshit slow and I don't know where to start. I have set base Idle. I have set base timing. The vtec does not work. PLeasE help
Thought about it, but all the other stuff was for the HF system/computer. I have the map hooked up straight to the TB like it should be. So frustrating. MAybe I need the map sensor off another car that is not an HF.
BAsically i did a pretty straight up install. It was already mpfi, so I just transfered the harness over to the new engine. I ran the four wires that are quired for vtec to work, grounded the other side of the vtec oil pressure swith. I connected them all to the ecu where noted by hasport and some other sites. As for the sensors, I can't figure out why my car has the MAP sensor code. And I also can't figure out why it runs so sluggishly. MAybe the ITR cam was a mistake.

if the engine light is flashing sometimes vtec wont work, if your getting a map sensor code, either 5 or 3, one is mechanical, while the other is circuitry. Check your vacum lines, timing, tps circuit, and try using a teg or ef si map sensor. hope this works
I got a map code after I swapped my b16. I just played around with my vacuum lines and it finally stopped and the car ran a heck of alot better. I would venture a guess it is how you connected your lines to the map sensor.
all about vaccum lines.. check them 2, 3, 4 times over.... as for map sensors, they are all the same... I would try to use the one on tope of the TB as opposed to the one on the fire wall. I heard that you may run leaner using the one on the fire wall.
OK great thanks so much, i switched the map sensor from an old dx that I had in the back yard, the MAp code is gone!!!!!! Finally, now if I could only figure out the code 6(engine coolant temperature sensor) problem my car would be fixed, and my vtec might work. Took the car for a spin last night after the MAP fix, man she feels good, even with no vtec. If anyone wants to try with the solution to the ECT code, I would be trouble free.
Thanks again everyone!

For the ETC have you get a look at the sensor????
check for good ground, get it out of the hole, look at his conditions
see ya
