Default Blowing smoke only after downshifting then accelerating.

My car blows no smoke at the drag strip, nor on the dyno. However, I blow smoke if I downshift first then accelerate. i.e. If I'm in 5th gear driving on the highway, if I downshift to 4th and gun it, I can see the smoke.

Ideas?

mine used to do stuff like that-- only smoke at certain times. My drain line was bad at first, then it was cause my turbo was bad, whats the setup: oil line sizes, type of turbo, engine.....

I'm running the endyn breather kit with drain back installed. The nipple (stock) on the valve cover is T-ed into one of the hoses off the catch can.

Bottom hose off the catch can = T-ed for the drain back.
Top hose off the catch can = T-ed in with hose off valve cover nipple.

Running 11.4:1 compression with some BC3+s.

What do you mean drain line was bad?

If you check the picture at the bottom of page 2 on this thread: https://honda-tech.com/zero...age=2

I removed the drain-back feature of my breather setup and I had jizz in my catch can too. It wasn't in the lines, but when I removed the fitting at the bottom of the catch can, jizz came out. Any ideas?

ok first off, what color smoke and secondly its suppose tot that, means your getting fuel.. if its a lot.. then its ur running too rich retune if u arern't running like 12.8-13.1 AFR get retuned cause thats idle for all motor setups on gsr/si's and what not specially with those high lope cams..

It's hard to tell what color smoke. It's either white-ish to grayish. Basically, if I haven't downshifted before accelerating, I don't notice smoke. If I downshift then accelerate, I notice there is smoke.

I don't really think it's a tuning issue. I'm street & dyno tuned. I just passed the sniffer with flying colors. I'm talking way under the legal limit.

Anyone think this is valve seal related?

Bump for ideas!!!! I just put in a 00 ITR, with endyne breather kit that vents to atmosphere and ATS transmission and I get white-gray smoke under hard acceleration. Did a compression and leak-down every thing was good.

could be wrong but could you be experiencing a slight floating valves???

Like oil could be getting in at higher rpms.

haha I am full of theories.

I had always been told that if it smokes while you shift then it is the valve seals but you said the smoke looks white/grayish, and oil smoke is blue so at the same time it doesn't seem like it could be the valve seals leaking. do a compression test.

smoke during shifting or when letting off the throttle is usually valve seals.... under heavy vacuum ... (when you let off the throttle to shift ) the oil is sucked past the worn seals into the combustion chamber causing it to puff smoke.

you can also check it at idle...rev up the car and when you let off the throttle have someone standing back there watching

I took my header off this weekend and check out my valves. I did this after my car sat overnight. There is no oil on the valves at all. I need to find a compressor I can use... my leakdown tester is dyin' to be used on this motor.

It's the intake valve seals that see the strong vacuum when you close the throttle.

Compression or leakdown won't see this, because the valve is closed when you do those tests.

I thought a leakdown would show that seals are leaking...
