Smoking My Tail Lights. (I searched)
Greetings, I bought my 4th gen Prelude and it came with Altezzas
. I absolutely hate them. Since there arn't many other tail light's other than stock, which I don't have, that I could use, I just decided to "smoke" my current ones. I'm not sure if "smoking" them is actually the term of what I have in mind. I want to take the tail light cover off and paint the inside of the cover black, cos it'd go best with my already black car, then put the cover back on, resulting in the entire light being blackened/shaded.
I know that I shouldn't apply to much paint to the inside cover cos then my light wouldn't show very well, or at all even when I apply my brakes. Since it's all black, would the blinker light even come into effect? Or would the blinker light up the whole tail light cover as if the the whole cover blinks when signaling? I mainly need to know if what I'm thinking should work acordingly so that everything pans out and these Altezzas can be hidden so I can re-gain my self respect.
Also, if there's a thread about removing the tail light cover, that'd be much needed.
Thank-you for any imput you can give me.

from what i can tell what you are trying to do should work. to separate the cover from the light isn't too hard so long as it is the same as stock. the way i did mine is i put one in the oven on 250 degrees for about 15 minutes to melt the glue and then you can start separating the taillight. you may have to reheat it a couple of times but just be carful and take you time while separating them. and when you are ready to put them back together just reheat them ant then push them together and clean up any glue that comes out. now i don't know for sure if this will work with the altezzas but that is how i did my stock taillights.

Those pictures don't appear to be coming up, I waited 5 mins for them to load and nothing so far. Your whole tail light is blackened/shaded? Do you have any problems with the lighting from the turn signals? I really wish the pictures of your car would show.
sorry my pics don't load i don't know whats wrong with the site i need to figure it out but my entire tail light is not black only the turn signal and reverse light. they still can be seen just fine except now i can't really see to well behind me when i back up a night because my reverse light doesn't shine thru bright enough to light up whats behind me. but if u spray the whole tail light you should be fine as long as you use the paint that is made for doing this and you don't put it on too thick. for mine lights i used stuff called nite shades. i'll try to get you some pics
