Default Tires down to the wires

hi, I have a set of Dunlop FM-901's. My right front is showing major wear down to showing the wires in tire. I know it's due to bad toe as I havn't had time to adjust it. It's about 1/4 (or a little more) from the inside to out that is worn. From that 1/4 I'd say 25% (or less) is showing wire. Kinda dumb question but someone make me feel better, how long do you guys think I can last on that? I'm kinda pressed on cash so if anybody has a set of 205/45/16 tires around, let me know. Thanks.

if you see the belts honestly you dont have much time left. if you need something cheap just go to a local tire place and see if they have used tires. This place by me is ghetto and you can get used tires and totally bargain with them. if your really tight on money you can get 2 fronts and just mount them. no balancing or anything. you should be able to get 2 fronts mounted for like $40. if you want them balanced or nicer tires then it gets more money but in a pinch it will definatly work and be much safer then something showing the belts.

used tires arent that great either, u never know where they have been or been through. I guess its cool to roll, on but be careful and work to get your real tires put on. A friend of mine frequents the use of used tires. One day on the freeway it blew and he spun out, luckily it was late so no one was really around. The tire didnt have the belts showing, he thouht it was good, so we dont know what happened, but he stays away from used now

I totally agree. Use them only untill you can get new ones but they should be better then the ones with the belts showing.

Walmart tires are really cheap and quite reliable. Be careful if you're only replacing the fronts or just the rears. If the fronts and rears have different treadwear you'll get really bad wandering while driving in ruts. I'd say take transit for a month or two while your car's off the road without insurance until you save for a really good set of tires.

If a cop sees wires......you are in a world of hurt. Please change your tires before you get a blow out and hurt yourself or someone else.

Thanks for the tips guys, I have a old set of 15 inch FN01R-C's I get get by with. They'll last until i can get som tires. What do you guys think of BFGoodrich's Sport tires? They've gotten pretty good reviews at tire rack.

Not to critisize but get some tires that are decent, will last a long time, and that are cheap.

Get the nice toys when you have the money for it. This is why I am running on 13" tires.

But that's my 2 cents.

well, as I mentioned in the first post...this is my fault. I should have gotten my allignment done. My toe was waaayyy off. So they could've been a cheap tire which were supposed to last a long time, but don't u think they would've worn out the same way these did under my condition?

Not really your fault, **** happens. I don't get an alignment done regularly. All it takes if for you to led your car to your buddy, he hits a curb and doesn't tell you and next thing you know you see wires.

All I was saying is maybe you should question the wisdom of riding on 17" tires if you can't afford to replace them. But you are right, it's none of my buisness, this is a tech forum and not an advice forum. Forget I mentioned it, spend your money as you so see fit.

You're totally right about "**** happens." That's why I can't get the 16" tires! Oh well, you made me feel better when you said it's not totally my fault. Thanks for that! My point was just to say, it wasn't the cost of the tire that caused the problem. Thanks for your replies though dude!

you are joking right? BUY TIRES BEFORE SOMETHING BAD HAPPENS

I can't believe it. there is officially a post on H-T about some jackass wondering how long he can drive on wires. can something this STUPID even be considered "tech"?

Dude, calm down. I will replace the bad tire with a 15 inch 5zigen rim with good tire tread. I go to and from work about 3 miles each way. I understand the severity of this and being that I work 2 jobs I really don't have time to drop it off until this weekend. I agree, something like this is stupid and is not "tech." Yet I do want opinions and suggestions pertaining to my questions. And why do you have to call me a Jackass? LOL, so there are dumbasses on HT who like to "E-Bang" over the internet! Don't you have anything else better to do? So, to make YOU happy I will change the tire, yep just for you!

Cheers....

First of all, don't give me any bullshit about being to busy. Lemme guess, last week you had all the tread in the world, and now this week your wondering if you can make it to the weekend with wires popping out.

Seconed, don't ATTACK me because you are making a jackass decision. It is dumb to drive around like that. Think about driving down the freeway and to have a couple tires blow out. Your risking your car, your life, and most importantly the OTHER DRIVERs around you.

And it will make me happy to see you replace the rubber. Because even though I don't know you, I wouldn't want to see you die beacuse you didn't have time to change some tires. And don't street race either

Have a nice day

Thanks for the concern dude. I didn't mean to attack you but I felt attacked myself! I probably didn't have all the tread in the world last week

I had no reason to look under the car until this past Sunday to look for roadkill but instead I observed a messed up tire. I got around to putting on the 15inch Zigens last night with near perfect rubber wrapped around it but the tire directon is oposite (any problems here?)!. Then I got to observe the messed up tire more. It was actually not that bad. only a small portion was starting to show wire. The rest of it was just kinda bald. Still dangerous. But, JICEK9 thanks again for your concern, you even got me calling myself jackass that night!!

Yes, don't drive in the rain. especially seeing as you have now have different tires on different sides (car might start to really act funny)

But it is better then wires.

it sound more like a camber issue and not a toe usually toe dosent cause tire wear unless its excesive. all that toe cause is a steering wheel beign of center.

You are partially or fully incorrect on all counts.
