Underdrive Pulleys
Do they really work? How many HP can I expect by installing them? Will they harm my engine in the long run? Are they worth the money? Any info would be appreciate it.
They don't do much. I took my PS belt off and still didn't feel a difference. I'd think yanking the belt would do more than putting a larger, lighter pulley on the PS and alternator. I'd spend the money elsewhere. Plus, the install on those is a bitch.
I have the Unorthodox Underdrive crank and pulley set. Many people warned me after I put them on because of the non harmonic dampening on them. I believe AEM makes crank pulleys that have this harmonic dampening to prevent crank walk or something.
Well I had these pulleys on for 3+ years and I don't notice any engine characteristic differences other than my turbo bolt on!
You'll notice the power difference when you have a lot of electricals and air conditioning on. It saves power consumption I guess. For instance, I was racing with the air conditioning on (dont do this) before/after pulleys and there was a minor performance improvement. I believe the pulleys will be more noticeable with force induction. It also saves you 7 pounds or something. That crank pulley is heavy man! And they look cool!

So what should be my next mod. I already have shocks, springs, swaybars, brakes, AEM intake and exhaust. I have been thinking about underdrive pulleys, cam gears, testpipe with O2 sim, what do you think?
Well I was in a similiar situation. . All these add ons that you mentioned are probably only going to give you 10-12 horsepower. I think the biggest difference would be camshafts, an ecu, bigger injectors, and cam gears. But this will cost like $3,000 for a good setup. Might as well go turbo. And in all honesty sake, I highly recommend FI. You can find used supercharger or turbo kits starting at 1,500 if you look hard enough.
That is just my opinion. I have had Drag gen 3 kit for over 2 years now on a stock block and it is running fine. Granted I am running really rich and probably could make more power if I tune it but I happy with it right now. I run 6-10 pounds of boost. I spent about $3,500 for my setup (most of it was used). This included fuel, turbo kit, ignition kit, guages, and other accessories.
Never looked back after I bought turbo man. But then again it is kinda expensive but the best bang for the buck besides N02.
