Default Del Sol Pic request: moding the drivers air vent to mount a 2 1/16 gauge ?

Hi guys,

I'm contemplating moding my drivers side air vent to add a 2 1/16 boost gauge and was wondering if anyone has a pic of this. I've searched but have only found pics of the center vent & the cluster mod. I know this has been done before. Any pics/ info would be great... Thanks.

I dont have any pics , but have 2 friends that have done it . Not a perfect fit , but if you surround the gauge with a bit of foam it will fit pretty well . Looks very close to flush too .

Thanks for the pic.... I'm going to pick up an extra drivers side vent today, and mod that one. I also have a new gauge coming in tomorrow. I'm thinking of gutting out the vent portion and placing the gauge in there, for a clean look.

That's a pretty cool idea, seeing as how I don't use my climate control at all (let alone have an airbox in my hatch) I might just do something like this in carbon fiber or fiberglass. Thanks for a sweet idea.

I allready did that. I'm running out of places to put gauges where I can see them without looking away from the track too much. And no I do not have 02938490832475908173498570w938475q36q gauges, I just don't put them in spots such as the a-pillar, or on top of the dash.

im running 4 gauges, so there is no other choice in a sol but to run then a pillar set up. 3 in there, wideband in the cluster

Center vents?

I took out the entire climate control system in my hatch to reduce weight and then decided to fill the center vent holes with gauges. I also have them where the stock radio was as well.

You'll find that if the gauge is in the air vent, the steering wheel makes it hard to view without moving your head around.

Replace the clock, seems to be the best solution. But you lose your roof, trunk indicators.

The only reason I'm trying to stay away from the cluster idea, is that there's usually a 1/8th gap that surrounds the newly installed gauge allowing light to shine a ring around the gauge. Also there's an opening in the plastic cover. Don't get me wrong, It still looks clean but I rather leave the cluster stock. Someone mentioned that when a gauge is installed in the drivers vent that there's a small gap around it... I thinking that a piece or plastic or thin wood (painted low gloss black) would solve the gap issue, and make for a really clean install.
