Default Momo horn & NRG plate

Sup guys. I have a Momo steering wheel with horn and purchased an NRG hub for it. Normally there is a ground plate that securly holds the horn in place. However, NRG provides a plate that does not do that job (it's too big). It is not securing the horn from the wires that bunch up.

If I could, I would substitute it with Momo's plate instead. But that doesn't work b/c the Momo plate does not fit properly with the NRG hub (due to a raised lip).

Is there a plate that works for both Momo horn and NRG hub? I did a search but couldn't find anything. Thanks for your help.

These guys ---> shopmomo.com say that both sizes must use that plate, "otherwise there is nothing to hold the button in place". Oh what to do.

I emailed NRG for a solution and waiting for their response. We'll see.

I used the Momo Plate to keep the horn as you would regularly do. You just have to use the long silver screws as the guide in to the QR.
They should have been provided with the QR. Use three of the long silver screws to mount the wheel on the hub tighten them well. then Add 3 of the momo screws which should catch thread. Then just replace the silvers 1 buy 1 with the black screws.

Use the NRG plate between the QR and the Hub to ground your horn. Really isn't that hard, you just have to fiddle with it a little bit.

I recently encountered the same problem. I just flattened out the MOMO part, and drilled all the holes larger so it would still fit. Once its all bolted up, you can't tell. Ohh, and you have to take about 1/8 off the lip that holds the horn, otherwise you can't bolt down the trim ring.

Kudos to you. Mine would not fit all the way down on the NRG hub if I did not trim it. The lip of the horn retainer has to be flattened to be use with the NRG QR that I have.

Figured it out. I have Momo's Monte Carlo steering wheel (one of the older ones). The plate I am talking about is called a horn retaining ring as DavidR mentions above. Momo's horn retaining ring is not compatible with the NRG hub. However that ring is required to hold the horn. There are two sizes horns and I have the larger one. The larger horn has a rounded lip around the edge while the smaller horn has a squared edge lip.

Anyways, I had to actually modify the Momo retaining ring a little. Basically, I crimped the lip of the retaining ring as best as I could to try to fit the hub. The retaining ring got really warped afterwards. Then I just aligned and screwed everything together. I let the tightening re-shape the plate in between the steering wheel and hub. I also applied weight to help the re-shaping turn flatter. See pics.

So for anyone with a with a Monte Carlo wheel and NRG hub, if you want a horn, you might be better off purchasing the smaller one and buying a horn trim ring that holds the horn from the face of the steering wheel, like shown on this pic...

I'm not sure if this horn trim works with the larger horns. Momo tech couldn't answer that question for me and according to Rhad performance...no ---> http://www.shopmomo.com/ringjet.html

All I did was the ring that spreads out the momo/mugen horn I opened it up with and forced it under the horn. So it would spread the horn out wider and it fit perfectly. Hope that makes any sense

Hahah... I guess I'm not the only one that experienced this problem. I actually ended up putting the NRG QR on a mill and cutting out 1/8" from the inside of the hub so that the original MoMo ring would fit properly. It's a product design flaw and NRG should address it.
