Turn Signals on 94 Accord Coupe
Daughters 94 Honda Accord Coupe Automatic. When car is first started and until it has warmed up, the turn signals do not blink. Once the vehicle has warmed up, turn signals work fine. No delay. All bulbs are good and relay has been replaced, to no avail. It's like when the car is cold, so are the turn signal indicators on the dash. Any ideas?
Take your daughter's hair dryer ( no, not the pink one! ) and without starting the car (but turning the key 'on'), turn on the directional and blow warm air into the cover that the directional stem comes out of.
If it starts working, the "Monkey Snot" that Honda call's Assembly Grease has hardened, and keeps the contacts from doing their thing until it warms up.
It's either that or Honda has the directionals working thru one of their famous Unified Logic Modules - at which point , all bets are off

Learned that trick as an Electronics tech trying to locate thermal intermittent conditions. A hair Dryer and a can of "Quick-Freeze" work wonders.
Used the same trick to diagnose the wipers on the '97 CD720 SE I drive, (wipers took their damn good time starting after I turned them on.

Thanks for the GREAT information. I have a shop manual for this vehicle but it imples I simply remove the steering wheel. First remove the sterring wheel emblem, then take off the steering wheel nut and then remove the steering wheeel. All that sounds great but what about the damn airbag? ANy possibility I could screw that up or set it off? If I understood you right and I follow the instructions in the Honda "Shop Manual" , all I need to do is remove the hardened monkey snot and replace it with white lithium grease. Right?
I guess I am wondering if there is a way to do this without removing the steering wheel or am I misunderstanding this? I really do appreciate your help.

Unfortunately, you'll note in the Steering Colume Detail, the switches mount with screws positioned to require taking the wheel off. (Sorry)
The thing to remember about Airbags is that they are propelled by a load of rocket fuel (Really!), and it's imperative that you disarm the system before serviceing. This can be done by pulling the SRS Fuse, but don't turn the Key on at any time that this fuse is out (It will set an SRS error code).
