yes i seen that but no where in that thread does it list any one difference between the blocks. so i dont see how it relates to this thread.

you sure its the pistons. its the head that causes the higher compression.

The pistons also contribute to compression being different heights, also the head gasket can alter compression slightly.
I belive the y8 is ob2 and the z6 is obd1 if that makes a difference.

good luck, nobody has ever been able to answer that for me

I know there is a different oil pump in them. supposedly the z6 has a greater flow rate than the y8.
I do believe that the rods/pistons are different, but overall are the same size.
They have different oil pans.
I believe that the blocks are pretty much different in almost every aspect, except that they're interchangeable. You can put a y8 head on a z6 block and a z6 head on a y8 block.
but basically once you get down to it, the oil pump is the real difference. everything else is different, but the blocks outter dimensions are the smae.
hope that helps alittle.

the intake manifold is different the air passes in different ways and the piston size is also different not by much but by enough that is it also the y8 gets 40/47 city/highway gas miles compared to the 29/36 the z6 has i would never use a y8 if my z6went but that would never happen

in all the years I have owned my 99 ex. I have never gotten anywhere near 40 mpg, even all highway. the best ever was once I got 35mpg all highway.
