87 CRX swaps and body
Hi all,
I'm new to this board, and I have a few "newbie" questions:
- Can The newer style CRX front end (like 88-up?) be swaped to a 87-prior body? Would it be just hood, headlight trays and small peices? Fenders too? Or no. BTW are CRX fenders fiber glass or plastic or something?
- With this carburated setup (totally stock) what are options in terms of motor swaps. I know anything can be done....what I want to know is.... What is a simple swap? I would want fuel injection.
- What is the 87 CRX motor called? code?
- I have a 92 DX HB, and love it, but it is growing older in the k's and I think this CRX (looking at buying one) could be had cheap. The CRX only has 170K and when the carb, etc begin to break down I'd like to swap in a motor like what I have in my 92.
- How much work would a motor such as the 1.5L from a 92-5 civic be to swap in? In terms of wireing and such? Would it be just a case of drop it in and find a place for the computer.... and then all the temp, oil, etc senders and such are all plug and play? I would not need a vetec motor, a simple SOHC non-vetec motor would do (with bolt ons of course). - will be a daily driver. Not sure if that makes it more complekated or not.
Going to look again today, and might just pick it up, so any responses ASAP are greatly appreciated!
Keep up the great work in this great forum.
Thanks,
Trevor

Ok found out after a quick search that the CRX has D15A2. What is the easiest fuel injection swap for this car? 88-91 D15B2 civic? head/manifolds/wireing harness/comp/, what to grab? or better yet D15B7 (same as my 92 civic). ??? I know there are people on here, can Someone please post some suggestions for me, please withhold sarcasm, and sorry for being impatient. I just want to know all about this car so bad!! hehe

87 is a first gen CRX. Yes it has a d-series in it, however newer d-series engines are NOT a simple bolt in matter, it would require some custom work, more then it's worth. D16A1's (brown valve cover) can be had for fairly little. They come out of same year (86-87 I think) Integra's. You'll also need some more specific parts then just the engine, I can't remember exactly at the moment but i know there's some great information on RedPepperRacing.com as mentioned before, register and do some searching!
being that you have a carb'd model crx, you will need to modify a few other things as well when you swap to fuel injection. for starters, the feed and return lines from the tank to the fuel line will need to be replaced. they fuel injection models use larger lines for feed and return. you will need to change the fuel pump to a fuel injection model. just use the pump from the 87 si and that will work just fine. you will also need to get a different computer. if you use the d16a1 integra motor like was suggested, just try to get the ecu for it. you will also need the wiring harness from an si model too, i believe. that's the whole engine bay harness that runs from the ecu to the engine and everything else. it will take a little bit of work, but it can be done. we converted my brother's 86 hf to fuel injection for his racing. but we had a spare si model sitting around with a horrible frame, so we had all the parts we needed. good luck.
