I would like to see this great movie as a Dvd please help

 

A DVD would be nice, but even anamorphic WS DVD would not do this film much justance. Hopefully if they do a DVD, it will be mastered it HD so that one day we can watch it in HiDef.

GrandPrix was filmed in Cinerama 70mm (2.75:1 aspect). Here is what the resolution would be full frame in stardard def.

Letterbox VHS: ~116 lines
Letterbox DVD: ~261 lines
Anamorphic Widescreen DVD: ~348 lines (on a 16x9 set)

1080i HD: ~698 lines (and a whole lot more horizontal res and colorsapce)

MGM made a handfull of Cinerama 70mm films in the late 60s. The good ones, GrandPrix, 2001: A Space Odyssey, The Greatest Story Told, Ice Station Zebra.

I need it on DVD... its been 5 years since I've had a VCR.... and consequently, 5 years since I've watched it.

 

As someone who saw the movie when originally released in theaters-this film is terrific. I own the original VHS release as well. I have been waiting patiently for 2 years now for the DVD, via Amazon.com. This movie ranks along with Le Mans as one of the 2 best auto racing films of all time. There may be others that you like-but these really do show things as they were on track in the period they were so carefully filmed.
Just my opinion and desire to have it on another medium to enjoy.
