Just bought an 2002 RSX-S, now what?
Guess what? This man now is the proud new owner of an '02 RSX-S.
After driving this car I feel in love with it. Leather guts, six speed, power everything! Yeah, I've been wanting to buy a newer car for a long time and finally startewd spending money on something that would last longer than my CRX. I'll post some pics on Monday.
On to my question: Is there really any difference (performance wise) between the '02-'06 Type Ss? I figure I may look into adding a turbo or swapping in a K24 no sooner than a year from now. I'm thinking a K24 may be a worse idea than just boosting it but I'm still doing some research.

like 10 HP and the 05's ++ have the type R final drive. not much really, unless you wanted the look of the newer ones.
i wouldnt do an engine swap, the type S has a very nice engine in it right now, if you were going to do an engine swap you might of wanted to get a base RSX and save money since the engine is going to be thrown out if you were to follow through with the k24 swap.
i say i/h/e and some suspension.
but if your dead set on having a swap or FI i say FI, the engine is good, no need for a swap.
enjoy
(if you do happen to do the swap send me your k20)

Although it won't be reflected too much in the 1/4 mile times, there is a big difference that will show up in road course lap times.
There were subtle suspension changes made in the 2005 model year and you might notice that when you're shopping for suspensions you'll find that a lot of parts will not work for 2005 and 2006 years.
Honda wanted to do the best they could with the much-criticised McPherson design with the tie rods connected to the struts, so they made a lot of small changes to maximise the suspension's performance when hitting potholes and bouncing off gaters.
There is a huge change in the computer programme for 2005 and 2006, too, and in driving the late model Type S you would not believe that the HP increase is so small. The changes to the cams and the computer make the power seem to be available in all gears at all times, much more than in the previous years. Very nice driving cars.
Now, just so you don't feel so bad: We all know that you are going to achieve the same thing, or even more, when you start modifying your car and talking about computers and other performance enhancements.
But your question was is there that much of a difference out of the box, and IMHO there is, in the actual driving of the car even if it doesn't show up in the 1/4 mile data.

And to anwer your other question boosting is going to give a hell of a lot more hp than a K24.
The K20A2 is built unbelievably well for boost. Some people have pushed the stock motor to over 500 hp.
Personally I would keep your Type S motor and build the bottom end.
ERL, Benson, or Golden Eagle Sleeves
Paueter or Cunningham Rods
Wiseco Pistons 9:1
Stock Headgasket and Red Rod Bearings
Full Race or SCI turbo kit.
Now you have a motor capable of 450 plus hp as opposed to the K24/K20 hybrid putting 240 to the wheels.
Even if you just swap a K24 it doesn't hold boost as good as the K20.
