Axle replacement... now new noises. help with the diagnosis
So i needed to have both my left and right cv axles replaced in my ls integra( well its a b20 but same thing really). Anyways, after replacement at a local "cv pros" all seems fine in that it doesnt click anymore with turning or going in a straight line, but the problem starts to occur when im braking at low speeds. It makes a loud "clunking noise". I looked through old posts of people with the same problem that said to either tighten the lugs or axle nuts. I checked the tightness on the lugs, and they are torqued enough. My question is: is this a new brake problem rearing its ugly head? or is it just installer error with the axles? Thanks for your input...
hmm.. would like to know too.. i replaced my axles.. but now when im going really really slow.. like just either reversing or pulling into a parking spot, ill brake a little, then get off the brakes, then just brake to complete the stop and sometimes ill get a little click noise. its not click..it'll just be one click. and its only when im gonna really slow and just take the break.. like only when the brake pad makes contact.. whatever is loose and has room to move, moves and makes the click.
any ideas???????
any ideas???????
haven't had the chance to check their work on anything but the tightness of the lugs just because its raining and I don't have too many tools (at school). I'm guessing I should just take it back to them and tell em to check their work. should've known not to take it to cv pros, lol.
that clunk noise could be related to a number of things, i would have then check thier work first, and if they cant figure it out, tear into it yourself. If not, find a reputable mechanic who will give you a free estimate, and tell him you just had the other work done too.
well... couldn't take it in today nor look at it, stupid hurricane. Anyways, my ABS light came on today which made me think "what would happen if they put the axles for the non-abs integras in?". Could this be the problem? It seems to simple but... what do you guys think?

i have the exact same problem as well and its getting worse, good luck figuring this one out man it's been driving me absolutely insand for about 10 months now. Every mechanic I talk to says check the ball joints (fine in my case) and the lower A-frame bushings (also as far as I can tell are fine) The bushings will be a bitch to fix cause you have to take them all to a machine shop and have them press out the old and in with the new bushings. Oh well, i'm going to totally keep an eye on this post cause i'm more curious than you guys for sho.
P.S. Go through a drive through, thats where mine clunks most. Also, when you have your windows down you can hear the clunk reverberate off the building and its louder to you. Have you taken note of whether the clunk is comming from the front or back? I thought for the longest time mine was from the front but more recently i've discovered it comming from the back the more closely I listen.
