did something stupid today...
while i was putting my wheel back on a messed up the thread on the hub, but it isnt that bad, was wondering if i can get it rethreaded or do i have to do something else, thanks, any help appreciated
interesting, is this gonna cost a lot, and is it easy to take off the hub and stuff
and also can i just file the threads so that there striaght, cause its only the first and second thread that is messed up

yes i believe you can still fix it. I've forgotten what they're called but they look like lugnuts with sharp thread-like edges that you can screw onto the thread to straighten it.
If you're going to take out the stud.. its a pain in the butt but fairly easy step, all you need is a hammerbar to pull the hub out. I've done this on my front wheels but not the rear.... it may be different.

It's called a die. You need to find the correct thread. Take one of your lugnuts to Lowes, Home Depot, etc. and size the thread in their hardware dept.

You can use a miniature triangular file to knock down the notch/**** in the thread. They also make these universal thread files with lots of different thread pitches in it, but I have no idea where to get one from. One of the mechanics here at work has one and it's pretty nifty.

Yep....the good ol tap n die set. I'd actually just go BUY a set that way....if something similar ever happens again with any other bolt, you'll have the tools to repair it....and save you money in the long run
well after an hours worth of filing with my moms nail filer, i got the thread fairly properly threaded now, the lugnuts go in/out all the way and also very smoothly now (just not as smooth as before), i am very happy now, but will prob look into getting a die set, thanks for all the help everyone

I HIGHLEY recommend investing in a tap and die set. I can't even begin to tell you how much money and time it's saved me by being able to repair threads on both bolts and nuts and other things that otherwise would have needed replacement.
Now I also just barely damaged the threads on the end of a lug stud, and I had to go to a local outlet that specializes in metric-sized bolts and fasteners and other hardware. I also had to buy a big socket to turn the die because it was too big to fit in my other die handle.
I can post up the thread info tonight if you need it (assuming I remember
).

you can also get a hardened nut and try to reshape it, by screwing in on and off so the threads clean up. ive done this on a few parts of mine and the bolts come off fine.
