Default Bad inner tie-rods?

I have a '90 LX, but not willing to rig my PS pump to the LX hoses, so it's going to have looped hoses.

My problem is that when the car is jacked up, each wheel has ~1/2" of free play before it makes any other steering part move (other wheel/steering wheel/rack). Is that commonly due to the inner tie-rods going? I know it could probably use some adjustment on that nut, but a loose rack would still move the other wheel instantly. I want the 3.6 ratio the power rack gives, but I don't want to really junk it (93k on my rack, very hard to find a better unit used). BTW search didn't give much info.

Other question: I'm assuming the shape of an inner tie-rod means it pivots? Or is it one rigid peice?

could be inner, could be outer tie rods. could by the rack, at the pinion gearbox or the rack end bushing (depending if you have manual steering).

you need to check and feel around.

You might as well replace your rack end bushing before tyson blows an o-ring.

trust me replace the rack end bushing like tyson said, i did and felt such a diffenerence, but now i dunno whats up with my steering. it was fine for a while but now it all wavy when i'm on the highway and feels sorta loose again. have brand new inner and outer tierods, had an allignment and replaced the rack end bushing. i think it could be the rack mounting bushings anyone have any idea. oh it also shakes sometimes when i brake hard.

I'd replace the bushing - if it was possible. None of the honda parts sites list any numbers (or even show) the seals/bushings inside a PS rack. LX comes standard with power steering, and I said I prefer the 3.6 ratio it gives.

I've been looking around, and I think I'm just going to get a remfg'd unit. Thanks for input though.

yeah, if you got a power unit, then i recommend getting a remanned unit. theres too much to deal with on a power rack. with a manual rack, its rather simple.

higguns, double check to see if everything you did is still tight.
