Alternator?
Actually you can get away without removing the axle. Remove the bolts holding the bearing support on the intermediate shaft and flip it down. It may slightly hit the steering rack and but theres enough play in the drive shaft to get clearance.
Then you can drop the alternator from the bottom. It takes some planning to orient the alternator so it has the smallest cross section to maneuver it between the steering rack and drive shaft. It takes alot of jiggling and twisting but it can be done. Shouldn't need any pry bars or to remove anything else.
Ive done it twice this way in my 91 LS and I can replace the alt in about 30-45 mins.
