Default Is your Street car faster then your track only car?

I was just wondering if your street car is faster then your track only car?
Do you find it frustrating in any way?

I can see what you're getting at, but there's more than one kind of fast.

What a strange question... but no... What difference does it make anyway?

Anyway, I drive a truck because of its utility and because it takes me 35min to go 17 miles to work. Doesn't matter if I drove a Ferrari as it would take the same time. I'm building my weekend light-my-hair-on-fire car so I have no need for a "fast" street car.

Yes on engine power, No on cornering ability.

Yes.

That can sometimes happen if your racecar is built under restrictive class rules and your street car is limited only by budget and what you are willing to live with on a daily basis. My class racing rules have been adjusted for 2006 to allow some more compression and lots more cam to it should definitely pass the street car in power. I am amazed by the number of people who see my car and think it is neat until they hear that I have a near stock D16A6 in it and not some swoopy twin cam, turbo, etc. swap. All games need to have some form of rules so everyone can play on a relatively even playing field. I'd love to have a 200+ hp engine in my racecar but I also know that I would not be able to compete for long against others in an open class, run anything you want situation. That would be less about wheel to wheel racing and more about a money throwing contest.

In a money throwing contest, I would lose. With a racecar built to rules that I choose to compete with, I have the opportunity win or at least compete.

Street car: VW Golf TDi
Race car: Civic H1 car

No comparison. Also very little temptation to try a hustle the Diesel around on the street after driving the race car. It just doesn't hustle.

Never really thought I'd reach this point but, at 42, I now find myself to be a mellow driver on the street. Even when driving something fast from a magazine or client, I usually can't wait to give it back for fear that every cop in the state is looking for me or just from the frustration that I can't really see what it'll do away from a race track.

It's a better and happier state of being, but I doubt I would have believe it in my teens or twenties...

I have driven a number of street turbo and N/A diesels on Zandvoort racetrack in Holland including a new Golf V and I can agree with you that they don't hustle. The revs you want from a gas engine are just churning noise in the diesel without the pull that we expect. Very different experience from what I'm used to.

I am closer to considering a small turbo diesel for a street car now mnore than ever before but the racecar will probably remain gas.

I had that problem until I switched from H4 to H1. My H1 car is faster straight line than anything I've ever owned, including the 427 Vette and my dad's NSX. I did suck a little, especially when I went from doing HPDEs in my Prelude VTEC to racing a CRX HF... I wanted to get out and push.

Race Car: ITA 95 Civic EX Coupe
Street Car: 97 Ford F250 Turbo Diesel

More HP, way more torque, but way heavier and not geared for speed. That be a big, fat NOPE!

I can certianly empathize with Thawley. After going to track events and racing for the past 2 years, I have definetely become more of a 'cautious' driver on the streets and freeways. Once I realized what a car was capable of and what can happen when you cross that line on the relative safety of the track, the desire to push it on the street quickly disappeared. I have no problem being the guy only doing 5 miles over the speed limit in the slow lane.

Race Car: 95 Del Sol Si -127 whp
Street car: 98 Honda Prelude- old build, 330whp- new build, should run in another week, 400-450whp...

The race car is quite slow when I get in it. It use to seem much faster before I got the prelude. I'm guessing when I finish the re-build on the Prelude next week the race car is going to feel like a Pinto.

With that being said, the Prelude is obviously faster in a strait line, but handleing is a problem considering the fact that traction will be difficult in a few of the gears!!

Yes I'm an idiot.. one day I will learn!

Racecar: 1991 Honda CRX Si H4 spec. 120whp, 2175 lbs w/driver
Streetcar: 2003 BMW M3 333 bhp, Tein Sus., Toyo T1R, 3600 lbs w/driver
Streetcar: 1995 Mitsubishi Eclipse RS Beatermobile 200k miles, 140 bph, 3400 lbs w/driver.

Racecar is faster around a race track and M3 is faster in a straight line. Beatermobile gets better gas mileage and eats about the same amount of oil as racecar.

I don't have a dedicated track car, but I wanna play.
I really don't know which will become more tracked yet, probably the porsche.

Porsche: 300+ hp/tp, 2800 pounds
Civic: 73 hp, 2100 pounds

There is a D16Z6 on a stand in my garage getting built, but that still only gonna be 150WHP. The civic is meant as a daily driver, but it will see more track then the porsche since the porsche is a maintainance hog. I wouldn't be surprised if in a few years, it became a race car.

Autox/Track car: 91 SM Civic (only ~180hp for now)
Daily driver: 03 Lancer (the 120hp one)
Other family car: 00 Taurus

So no, the "track" car is waaay faster, but i dont think i would mind either way.

Track / Auto X car: '00 Integra Type R
Street Car: '03 Evolution

The Evo feels a bit quicker then the R in some things but i still enjoy the R more. The tranny in the R is much smoother!

I think i may have to sneak the evo out to the track next year though, AWD Turbo is GREAT!

The Blazer is where its at though

Race car- GT-1 Corvette, 600hp, 2950 lbs(w/driver and fuel)
Street car 1- 1999 Civic Si, 160hp, I don't know, 2600 lbs?
Street car 2- 1992 Mazda B2200 beater, SLOW as hell.

I have never driven anything like the race car on the street, or any other race car for that matter.
I'd love to have a more powerful street car, not anywhere near the race car, but 200whp would be nice.
