Default Camshaft Comparison

I searched unsucessfully about camshafts, found some for sale, some info on some kinds, but what I'm really looking for is how do I know which manufacturer is the best? there are so many.. toda, crower, buddy club, jun, skunk2, etc.. I'm looking for more power and want to upgrade the valvetrain as well. I'm sure any of these will make more power over the stock cams, but I guess I'm concerned about wear and if there'll be any negative effect on my motor by upgrading. Also should I be considering any other upgrade while doing this?

It all depends on your goals. Money has a big thing to do with it. I mean, we can't really recommend a camshaft if we don't know what motor it is, what is done for mods, what engine management(if any), and how much do you have to spend. so far you're askin a pretty vague question. As far as camshaft construction, is that what you are asking about? There was a myth that Jun had a bad "batch" of cams as well as Crower. To my knowledge the cam manufacturers have fixed this problem. As far as wear, I haven't heard of any cams going "flat" like you tend to hear with the domestics sometimes. I'm not sure about any real "negative affects" that it might have on your motor, but there is such a thing as over-camming an engine. The more info you provide us, the better recommendation we can give you.

Thanks for the reply. I am looking for quality and good construction. Money isn't an issue, I will save until I have enough to do it right and I want to do it once and not mess around with it alot.

As far as my motor goes, its a JDM B18C spec R, I've done I/H/E, high flow cat, its converted to ODB1, p28 ecu, custom chip tuned on a dyno.. everything else is stock, thats why I am looking towards a cam/valvetrain upgrade next.. I was thinking something like the Buddy Club Spec IV as I can get everything in a package instead of piecing stuff together..

Jun 3's tuned on fairly stock motor have made 200 whp in some peoples cases(B18c/c5). The BC4 shares the same vtec lobe as the Jun 3 does, but the primaries are larger. Personally my recommendation would be either a Jun 3 or M22x. As far as valvetrain goes, no matter what cam you do I would purchase the RM gen 2 springs and retainers. They have light enough seat preasure for the Taiwan cams, but also handle the extreme lift of a S2S3(12.8) up to 10k. Contact Aquafina or Rochesterricer for prices on the M22 cams and valvetrain

The question isn't "which cam is the best out there?" since there are MANY high quality cams out there on the market and no such thing as "the best". The real question you should be asking is: "which cam is best for MY car?". Once you do a lot of reading/searching on this site you'll start to see other people with engine set-ups like yours that run different types of cams. As you educate yourself, you'll be able to ask some good questions and decide for yourself which cams would be best suited for your car and your driving needs.
